Bumbo Safety Notice. AT Reader Kendra wrote in to alert us to some news about the popular Bumbo Baby Seat. The good news is the Bumbo is safe when used as intended. However, many children have been injured after falls from the Bumbo when placed on an elevated surface - countertops, tables, chairs.
The message is - only use the Bumbo on the floor and always supervise your child when he or she is in the Bumbo. The South African company has halted sales of the chair until they redesign their packaging to emphasize how to safely use their product. Read more at bumbosafety.com.

It's so sad to see that companies have to protect themselves from stupid people. Who would ever think that this chair would be appropriate to put up on a table?
Really. I heard that there were three cases where infants recieved fractured skulls (obviously, they weren't using it on the floor). Some people are so stupid. We liked the bumbo.
I am a big fan of bumbos-I've bought them as gifts and won't part with my own, even though my child is now over 2. And the packaging CLEARLY states not to use it on an elevated surface. If a company already lists how not to use their product, and people still do it and have injuries, it shouldn't be a recall, exactly.
I feel so sad for those kids!
I love my bumbo chair, especially with the tray attachment! The packaging did state not to use the Bumbo on an elevated surface and not to use it in the tub. I would think these warnings were pure common sense anyway! I do feel sorry for the injured kids, but I'd have to question where the responsibility for their injuries truly lies.
In other news, walls have been proved to be very safe when used as intended. However, many adults have been injured after banging their heads on them.
