Burl Slice Mirror from Roost

We remember the days when gnarly lacquered tree trunk coffee tables were what all our cool friends' parents had. These days a huge piece like that seems a bit much, but the little hits of gnarl these mirrors offer could find a place in our home.

We like the red-orange wall the mirrors are styled with in the picture, actually, but the woodiness would also contrast nicely with a cooler color like grey or blue.

I keep seeing these as toads crawling up a wall. Ick.

This was ugly the first time in the 70's. Some things should not be brought back from the dead.

Brown. Squashed. Toads.

Or worse.

aw, i see beauty in them myself. i grew up in nature so these remind me of walking in the woods on my own, taking in and contemplating everything around me. maybe if they were photographed better you'd see the beautiful patterns and edges of these burls. oh, well.

I would love to see what happens if these same mirrors appeared in a real interior in about six months... I bet you'd get a totally different reaction. Like a lot of kitsch, they need context.
