Richard Scarry's Busytown books were a childhood favorite of ours and now are equally loved by our little ones. Of course when we saw that Holly of Stitch/Craft posted about her son's Busytown birthday party theme, we had to take a closer look.
Holly and her husband created tons of food, decorations and gifts all centered around Busytown. We love the Huckle cat cake and the stuffed Lowly worms! Oh! My grandmother made me a felt Lowly Worm when I was a girl. I adored him - and imagine he is still around somewhere. Must get Mom to dig him out of storage for the Boy (who is currently obsessed with his Busy Town book). Thanks for the great post/link.
We love Busytown! I have a few books from my childhood that my daughter now reads. Can you share the instructions for making Lowly Worm?

That is just too cute! I read my daughter my old Busytown book, she calls it "The Cat Family Book."
Thanks for the kind words! The pattern for Lowly was from Richard Scarry's "Best Make-it Book" ever, which is out of print, but I bought one on eBay. So I don't think I can share the pattern, but if you click through and look at the pictures, you'll see the pattern, and how I sewed strips of tan, green and black felt together then traced the pattern, because I was making so many at once. The shirt is just a rectangle of felt and two buttons. The hat is sort of bell-curve shape, with the ends flipped up. You probably could just enlarge a picture of Lowly and do the same thing.
I forgot to add, after I traced the pattern, I sewed on the drawn line, leaving an opening on the head so I could turn it right-side-out. The head is covered by the hat, so you won't see the messy stitches used to close up the opening. And the length of the tan and green felt doesn't have to be precise because a good chunk of it is covered by the shirts anyway.
This is too cute for words - love the bright colors and all the action!!! Brilliant idea.

That book is awesome. I had it as a kid, and also ebayed it for my son. It has great cut-outs of the busytown gang and other crafts too. My son loves his Lowly too!
