Interior Design Remix by Randy Kaufman

Professional Project

Designer: Randy Kaufman of RKI+D
Client: Young Professional Married Couple (and a bunch of pets!)
Location: Boston, Massachusetts

In this project, interior designer Randy Kaufman used the clients existing furniture and mixed them in with a selection of new pieces, accessories, new paint colors, textures and space planning ides to transform the space:

The clients are an ambitious young married couple that didn't have alot of time to really plan what they wanted, even though they had a good sense of where to start. By listening to what the architecture wanted, and manipulating the natural light, views, space, and design elements within the space, they achieved what they really needed more than anything — a sense of order, a better use of the space, a more efficient amount of organization, better flow, and they ability to get back to their busy lives without having to pine over the details that were holding them back from really LOVING their recently purchased home.
I would say that my style for this apartment was warm modern with a direct New England feel. Also the husband was raised in France and I was able to bring alot of my experiences of living and studying in France to the table to make it feel more like a home they were used to. The architecture was extremely important in determining the furniture plan, and while the rooms of the Victorian home were fairly small, I was able to play with light and scale to make the spaces feel bigger and feel loftier.
One of the reasons I was hired for this project was because I was able to convince the clients that I could work with their rather small budget. As a young couple, they just weren't in the position to spend an exorbitant amount of money on new items, and therefore I creatively worked with some pieces that were kept, some that were purchased from large retailers, some well thought out more expensive choices, and even thrift store finds
.
Ultimately the connection between the architecture, myself, and the clients proved to be the best fit, and they couldn't be happier with the results.

Thanks Randy!
