I love that my small home is all mine! This is the first time I've lived alone and had absolute carte blanche to surround myself with the things I have collected through the years -- especially my books! This is the first time I've been able to get all of my lovely books out of boxes at the same time and put them on shelves (and tables, and stacks on the floor...). My mother was right: "Books are the easiest and most beautiful thing you can decorate a home with."
Three of My Best Tips and Tricks for Creating a Successful Small Space::
First, keep it simple. I, obviously, am no minimalist (as much as I admire that style, when my walls are bare my heart feels sad), but I've kept things simple by choosing a black/cream/wood base on the walls and furniture (for the most part -- look at that fabulous couch!) and layering all my lovely clutter over the top.
Second, it doesn't count as clutter if looking at it fills your heart with joy and you follow a loose thematic element -- then, it's called a collection!
Third, it's your home. Find a place for everything in it, including yourself, or find it a new home. Don't let yourself be ruled by your things or a design plan or any of that other stuff -- make yourself feel at home!
