Scouting for a cake pan
for a friend's child's birthday, we were frustrated by the lack of options in the stores. There were few available, and they were expensive - especially for what would probably be a one-time use purchase. Also, nearly everything was heavily branded with popular children's product marketing - Dora the Explorer, Cars, Batman. We avoid this stuff as much as possible - we just wanted a basic elephant pan.
Too bad we don't live near the public library of Hubbard, Ohio. They don't just offer books - they offer children's cake pans that can be checked out of the library for that special, one-time-only birthday cake. We think this is rather brilliant - one less thing for parents to buy and a good community service.
