Name: California (9 months)
Location: Windsor, Ontario, Canada
Color Inspiration: I have always loved pink and orange together. California's room was previously my home office, which was hot pink, pale pink and orange. So the lazy decorator in me breathed a sigh of relief when I found out I was having a a girl. The only things I had to do were bring in her crib, dresser and shelves and focus on some special touches like bedding. My favourite part of her room is the customized flower and bird wall decal.
Tip for Using Color: Since hot pink and orange aren't subtle colours, my goal was to balance them with the warm neutral wall colour and soft pink. I think you can make pretty much any colour (bold or subdued) work with a neutral colour on the wall. Since we're probably going to be selling our home soon, I also thought it important to keep her room neutral and not too girly. The chair pattern and wall decal are pretty bold, so I also made an effort to keep the bedding fairly plain.
Colors Used: Wall colour Palm Springs Tan (CIL), hot pink, pale pink and orange accents.
Thanks for your colorful entry Cora and good luck!

This room is awesome! I love pink and red together also. That quilt is amazing!
the room is nice, but i think i am more interested in the child's name: California. Really? Who names their daughter california? Do you call her Cali?
Well the room is top notch! A stunning use of colours that you see intermingling about as much as Janet Reno and Jon Hamm do. As for the child's name - spectacular - I'm sure she is as naturally beautiful as the State itself.
beautiful colors, beautiful name!
Really love the colors and everything about this room. It looks so peaceful and vibrant at the same time.
adorable!!! Perfect little girl's room without going overboard on the pink. good job!
I've honestly been getting a little tired of so many tree wall decals, but I feel like yours really stands out and is quite lovely! I love the pink and orange color combo, and with the wall color you chose, it just makes it that much more fresh and interesting! Great job!
It refreshing to see rooms that someone didn't hire an architect or a designer for (and spend thousands on).
Why do people have to be so damn bitchy and negative? If she has a child named California, what's it to you, Chelly?
Cute room. I absolutely adore the quilt!
I love California (the state) so why not name your child after a very hip place to be?
Plus, her parents are Canadian. As an American who lives in California, I feel flattered that a Canadian would want to name her baby after my state. Look at the very talented actress America Ferrera--who knows, maybe there's a kid out there named Canada or Montreal. Then there's the singer Chyna Phillips. And Dallas and Austin are common boys names! I could go on and on...Paris Hilton, London, Brooklyn, ALL names of cities and cute baby names as well.
California isn't a common name, but I think Cali makes for a cute nickname! The room is really sunny and happy and the perfect place for a kid name California to grow in.
Personally, I wouldn't name a child California, but then again, my future children will already have a long and hard to pronounce last name, so they are getting super short one or 2 syllable names - both for their own sake and so I can yell their whole name [as in FirstMiddleLast, stop jumping on the sofa!] at them when they are in trouble without getting tongue tied, haha.
Very pretty color combination!
I can't get behind weird names like California (its seriously like fingernails on a chalkboard), but the room is really cute and they got my vote. I love the wild pink and orange color combination on a neutral background and the really effective use of decals. Well done!
Great room. Love the color combination and little touches.
Wow, this site is about decorating not baby names. I say to each his own regarding your child's name. California is cute. It's not vulgar and it doesn't rhyme with certain body parts.
Get over the child's name, and focus on the room, people!!!
Thanks to everyone who has said they like the room. While I was making her quilt, I did ask myself why I had given her such a long name. I completely understand why some people have the reaction that they do to her name, because I had some reservations too. But, her father has had a strong lifelong connection to California, and how could I say no to him wanting to share that with her? She can call herself whatever she likes when she gets older. So far, her name suits her because she’s always happy and giggly. Basically your little ray of sunshine.
I love your room! I'm trying to come up with a cute paper bird mobile and really love the look of yours. Did you buy it or make it? Is there a template if you made it?
Beautiful!
You can thank Martha for this mobile. The template is posted on her site.

As a parent of children with unique names I appreciate the name California. I actually tossed it around myself when I was pregnant and bummed about having to move away from Cali for work reasons. The room is adorable. I'm a big fan of orange and pink as well as orange and aqua.
I love it. Reminds me of Pink and Orange. I love Pink and Orange
