On the list of instruments we hope our children grow to take fondly to and learn to play with unabashed passion, you usually won't find a calypso drum. It won't make the list of things needed to play rock band either, so that's why we're convinced, every household needs to secure their own! How else will they play the "How Does She Know That You Love Her" song from Enchanted?

You can find this fabulous drum at Hammacher and Schlemmer for $99.95. We love the fact that it's not your typical kiddie guitar or recorder. Although your children probably won't be taking it up as a full time profession, we still think it's a fun addition to any playroom and could double as a killer Hot Wheel ramp on short notice.

If you're more into making your own, there's many a tutorial on the internet, though it might not be the easiest thing for the average home crafter. You can however make something called a Dudup that is a simple percussion instrument that doesn't involve so much hammering and know how. Here's a quick tutorial.

We love the idea of adding something obscure to your family band, even if the thought of owning one has you running for the bottle of Tylenol. We're sure it's bound to create memories and family fun for years to come.
