Name: Cameron (9)
Location: Manhattan, NY
Long story short...I, the big sister (there is a 19 year age difference between us), re-designed my brother's room. He will soon be turning 10 years old and going on to 4th grade so we knew it was time to get rid of the youth bed, put the huge Spiderman toy chest in storage and get Cameron an actual place to put his TV instead of sitting it on his blue storage bin full of art supplies!
It was a super fun project that I involved my brother in from start to finish. The end result is a big difference from what things looked like before and it's now a room that he can grow into for years to come.
Thanks Taina! Readers, see more of Cameron's room on A {Kiss} of Color here and here.

Love the hanging snakey!
You did a great job. Lucky Cameron!
Lucky brother!
Thanks guys! He sure is a lucky lil guy! He loves his new room and I'm so happy to hear y'all love it too!!
What is the name of that paint!? I covet it!
Thank you so much for featuring a kid's room for an older child! Much as I love them, we're a bit past the nursery stage in my house. Not only did you do a great job on the design, creating a light and airy, yet boyish room that deserves the enthusiasm he's so obviously expressing, but it's also great to see considerations such as homework space and media access considered in a child's room. Thanks again!
Ditto on the paint!
How high are the ceilings? I would love to do a loft bed for my son, but my ceilings are only 8 feet high, and it seems like the IKEA lofts are too tall...
I checked out the other links and I think I would have kept the SpiderMan toy chest simply becasue it has his name on it. Maybe as a low shelf for books.
Regardless, I think, 1st--you rock for being such a super big sister and 2nd--the room came out fabulous.
Thanks so much y'all! I'll get back to you on the color of the paint. I have to check the paint can. The ceilings are about 8 or 9 feet high, I would have to re-measure once I visit the lil guy again soon. But the bed really wasn't that high. Decent height. On Ikea the measurements say 64 5/8 from the bed base which is about 5 1/2 ft. give or take and then you just have add about a foot for the hand rails. Also keeping in mind the thickness of your mattress.
As for the Spiderman toy chest I would have loved to have kept it in the room but we're talking about a Manhattan apartment here. The rooms aren't that large unfortunately so I had to work with the space I had. But no worries it's in storage! :)
Thanks for all the comments!!! So happy his room was such a huge success! I'm glad I shared it.
The look on his face says it all! Great job!
Hi there! For those of you who wanted to know the paint color it's called Gem Turquoise by Behr. It's Premium Plus paint in a Satin finish.
@blondishloretta Depending on what you want to do with the space underneath, you might be able to use a "junior" loft bed, which puts the bottom of the bed about 48 inches in the air. Probably also search on "short" loft bed. They're best over ground seating -- the teen room I saw used the space for a beanbag chair and a TV with videogames.
