I first became introduced to the paintings of Camille Rose Garcia when a friend dressed as one of her adorably haunting girls for Halloween. So pretty, and so spooky! Later, I had the chance to see a few of Camille's works in person at another friend's house. They are lush and gorgeous, but I don't know if I'd be able to sleep with them around. Would you?
Camille Rose Garcia's work makes me wish I wasn't such a scaredy-cat. I find her paintings to be hilarious, beautiful, fun, and daring, and the colors are perfection, but alas, they scare me. Do you have macabre art in your home? Did it take some getting used to?
The first three images here are available as limited-edition prints, but the others ("Chocolate Owl Overload" from Ultraviolenceland and "White Swan Deluge" from Dreamtime Escape Plan) have been sold- I just wanted you to see them. And to remind myself not to overdo it on the chocolate owls this Halloween.

Love her work. She is a very respected artist in the pop-surreal/lowbrow community.
I had never seen her work before. I really like it; reminds me of Remedios Varo (a favorite) a little bit. And I don't find these scary -- charming and strange, rather. (But then, I live with a giant Frankenstein portrait in my kitchen.)
I do have two pieces of 'creepy' artwork. The first is a 2 foot tall carved mask from Africa that looks like a devil. The thought behind the maskmaker's work is if demons believe that you already have a devil in your home, they will pass it by. (Talk about the devil you know...). The second piece is an Inuit sculpture of a medicine man/shaman - it's creepy with faces and spirits twisting and turning all around the piece. However, both pieces are beautiful, amusing, (to me) and fascinating. Even people who haven't liked the pieces admire the workmanship and integrity of the art. They both took some getting used to but now they are part of what home means to us.
To Horror Vacui - have you ever seen Bernie Brightson's Frankenstein pieces - some of the most stunning pen & inks I've ever seen! I love that you have Frank in your kitchen. (Especially since most of my cooking is kinda frankenstein-ish.)
Camille has had such a profound effect on the art world. She's also a great person!
Love this artist's work. Now, where can I scrounge up $400 to own a print of the first image? Thanks for introducing me to C.R. Garcia.
Love her! A friend introduced me to her work in high school (seven years ago? Eep!) and I've been a big fan ever since. I have a book of her artwork but I don't know that a framed print would fit in with the rest of our decor!
I love Camille Rose Garcia. Her work is amazing. She's a non-stop inspiration... right down to her usage of color... I've gone as far as to take in prints to use as a color-matching guide for my walls... in the last three houses I've inhabited.
While these early paintings are great, one has to check out her latest works:
