Campbell's room was always going to be a challenge when we transitioned from the cot to a big boy's bed due to the tiny size of the space (2.7m x 3.1m, about 9' x 10'). The door was placed in an awkward location in the middle of the wall...but we decided to slip a bed in behind the door so when you first look in the room it is not overpowered by the bed.
We just fit it in and decided to get one of the new lower height bunk beds. Despite the small size of the room we thought having the extra space under the bed would be a great reading or cubby house area.
Design wise, we wanted it to be simple but fun. We had already installed the yellow mid-century style light fitting so decided to go monochromatic with dashes of yellow. The simple base is livened up by the varying black and white patterns which provide a base to introduce other bright colours that trickle in with various other kids' stuff.
Bed linens are a mix and match of Campbell's favourite patterns from our own kids bed linen range..so that was easy. He likes the raindrops and arrows best, which were on the reverse sides of the duvet covers, but we can just turn them over for a change . The motifs are mixed up to keep things from feeling too matchy.
I love the little things like the simple string to hang family pics, the classic books on display (including The Hungry Caterpillar which I had as a child and was given to him on the day he was born), and those tiny runners (was he really that tiny?) I also love seeing him sit in my little vintage cane chair which was in my own room as a child.
Of course Campbell loves the teepee..he always finds our Cavalier Spaniel sleeping in there and loves to join him.
