Q:I recently acquired a curb find: a mostly-solid wood credenza that should clean up nicely. The only challenge (after getting it into the garage - it weighs more than my Toyota) is that it's missing a couple of unusual drawer pulls. In addition, the pulls are in recessed circles, so switching them out with something else (and perhaps covering those holes) would be just as hard to do, I figure.
Does anyone know of a place to get some sort of replacements - I'm assuming I won't find matches (or will I?) or have another idea about what to do?

There needs to be a reverse Craig's List, just for things like this...things people are looking for. I'm sure somebody, somewhere has something like this sitting around in their garage or basement.
a picture of the dresser would be helpful for people to send in suggestions
I would Google "architectural salvage." Those places specialize in saving old hardware and such from old pieces. Or, Google "recessed drawer pulls." If I do an image search, I come up with a bunch of results that look similar to your pulls.
i saw that same thing at a woodcraft last week, maybe try there?
yeah i clicked through expecting to see the whole piece of furniture, it might help to have more context to get the thoughts and ideas flowing.
However, these are called flush pull latches, and a quick google search brings up some similar finds. A lot seem to come from european companies
oh another thing, also they are commonly used on boats (they dont stick out in small spaces), so that might help you source some as well.
These look like pulls used on cabinetry on a boat. I would check stores like "West Marine" or other boating supply stores and look for ring pulls. good luck!
Do a search for "flush pull ring" and you should be able to find a match. Sometimes marine/sailing supply store carry them.
Check out http://www.leevalley.com/ If they don't have it no one does.
Agree with prior commenter to search for "recessed pull round" and here's an example which looks close though not exact: http://www.signaturehardware.com/product16141
Going outside of the usual sources is a good idea adamwa. Another avenue might be luggage and stage rigging. ohiotravelbag.com has all sorts of hardware. theatres and concert venues use all sorts of recessed latches and pulls.
There's no ring in it, but these might work: http://www.myknobs.com/ri340279195.html
http://www.ansaldi.com/ - This place has tons of furniture hardware. I think I've seen something really similar!
I've seen pulls similar for this on sail boats. Since knobs tend to get in the way the usually use pulls like this that don't stick out. I'd recommend checking some Marine resources. If i can find any i'll post it :)

You can find that very pull at knobs4less.com. It's recessed pull. I can't tell if it's the same size but here's the link. http://www.knobs4less.com/Hafele-Cabinet-Hardware-Recessed-Pull/haf16116600.html
try richelieu.com
Google marine ring pulls.

If you decide to change them to something more standard, you can get metal back plates to put behind the new knobs to cover up the holes.
Liz's Antique Hardware has a hardware matching service. Check under "Everything Else", and then "Resources":

Ladykatey beat me to it: Just convert all the pulls to regular knobs with a medallion. For a funky look, drill holes in coins (half-dollar, dollar? dunno what size you need) to use as the medallions. A trip to a coin shop might yield some foreign currency that won't break the "bank".
If you can't find them, you don't have to replace them all. You can alternate drawer levels with different styles of handles.
looks like @postagenotes found them
Oh definitely! http://bluemanhardware.com/ and maybe you could send them a picture and measurements. Ask for Allan - he is amazing. I bought the exact same pulls for a restaurant last month.
I love the pulls, & as others have said, they are commonly found on boats. But wowsa, they are expensive! I would not want to spend more than $5-$10 on hardware -it would negate your free curb find!
Hi! I don't know how close you are to the city, but there is a major antique/industrial salv warehouse at Racine & Fulton in the West Loop, it's just two blocks north of Racine & Lake. I live right here, and Jan the owner has been in business for like 40 years. I get a lot of my supplies there for my home and for the vintage store I have online. She has like a million drawer pulls. If she can't find you that, you can probably find another set that will fit in its place. Happy hunting!! :)
www.vandykes.com has the EXACT ones!
