Can You Spot the Designer Trick in This Room?

We recently toured Clara and Sam's San Francisco home and noticed a clever little trick that interior designer Clara used in her living room. Designers say this all the time, so it was nice to see Clara put it into action. What is it?

Check out her perfectly sized rug.

Let's break it down: the grouping of living room furniture here has balance, i.e. each piece has its two front legs ON the rug and its two rear legs OFF. More important than which legs are where, is the fact that each piece is equal. She could have gotten an even bigger rug that accommodated all the legs of each item but each item should still be the SAME.

See? Here's a view of the opposite side of the grouping. The pink sofa matches the rest.
