Bunk beds probably aren't going to solve most of our small space problems. If they would, though, this solution is awesome.
Floating off of the wall, cantilevered bunk beds leave the space below and between beds completely open. The result is a clean, unencumbered look that would work really well in a small space. A similar design, in image 3, pairs a cantilevered bed above and cantilevered desk below. Could be perfect for small guest rooms.

Still requires a wall long enough for the bed. But without the framing of a traditional bunk bed, that means the wall needs to be about 6-8" less in length.
that's a very stylish jail cell.
I love it! When I think about my dream house it always includes a small basement bedroom with two sets of bunk beds so the whole family can visit. These fit the bill perfectly!
@MarlyK: I laughed at that!
I think for a guest room it sounds great but to live in there day in and out would get depressing.

first pic is about as chic of bunk beds as I've ever seen
@Marly K: HA!
Could someone explain how they are mounted to the wall? Is it just like floating shelves?
The first two pictures are a bit "prison break" for my taste, and the third is a bit "hostel break"
Yes, could someone explain how this works, structurally? That's a lot of weight to hang off of a normal wall.
Also, it looks like this might be a European room (based on the electrical sockets) so perhaps the beds are mounted into a masonry wall?
SubwayKnitter - you would be amazed at what you can do with massive bolts attached to the wall studs. None of these are completely cantilevered anyway, as the ladder is supporting some of the weight, and the last one isn't attached to the wall at all, so it's easy to approximate the look without worrying about the safety issues.
They're cute for kids, but I prefer free-standing furniture that I can rearrange easily.
You could put a third guest on a thin futon mattress underneath thereby creating a triple.
Love the idea. I haven't slept in a bunk bed since I attended horse camp. Would bring back fun memories of ice cream and late night movies with friends.
This would make me incredibly nervous if I was the one sleeping on the bottom bed.
I love the look but would be very suspicious of the "load limits". And I would definitely want to watch the installation so I felt secure things wouldn't slowly tilt downhill! But not for my main sleeping space -- for that a regular, large, floor-based bed is required. I'd fall off and injure myself sleeping on a shelf more than on a rare occasion!
tallsarah: "Still requires a wall long enough for the bed."
Uh?
Anyway hanging some chains from the ceiling to the 4 corners of each bed would make them more secure (and more like a jail!)
It is stylist, but it limits mobility. You can not arrange the room as you wanted. And the bunk beds depends on the wall.

I would love to know how to build these!
