Name: Cara
Location: Colonialtown, Orlando, Florida
My husband and I bought our house almost 2 years ago. It's about 1200 sq ft and the PERFECT starter home for us. "Our Bungalow Abode" is what we have affectionately named it and it's the first home we have owned. We knew when we looked at this house it had everything we wanted but it would need a little "TLC".
We have put some blood, sweat, tears and a WHOLE lot of deep cleaning and sprucing up. We have turned our house into a home and have loved putting our own decorating skills in action. Our home has turned into the "party" home mainly because of the awesome outdoor space we created in our backyard.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Beautiful! It is so lovely...very jealous :)
love!
absolutely love the backyard
One person's "starter" house is another person's dream home. I love your outdoor spaces, both the backyard and that great front porch.
Wow, very beautiful! Love the plantation shutters, the color in the bathroom and the wood deck. I'm in Tampa and love looking at the houses while visiting Orlando. Lots of adorable bungalows.
Oop, posted before I could finish...
Did you make the pavers, or buy them? If you bought them do you mind sharing where from?
Just wondering, did you all do the gravel fire pit area yourself? We are thinking of doing the same thing outside at our bungalow. If so, would you mind sharing how you did it and how well it's holding up. My DH is a rather big guy, so I am afraid that he will sink into a gravel area. LOL.
So cute! Love the bedding. Full tour??
My dream home! You are so lucky! You've done a really great job, very beautiful inside and out.
Sweet. Really like the bathroom and I agree w/ELIZ.
The yard looks like a fabulous place for parties. Love the lights suspended over the seating area...I want to see a shot of it at night!
Picture perfect. This could be my dream home. It's great inside and out.
The paint color in the bathroom is amazing!
hmmm... FULL tour please?? and renovation process details please? beautiful comfortable house... love to party there too.... :)
Lovely
Aw, shucks! Lovely seems to have been taken. How about, "charming"?
It's enviable. I'm so surprised it's in Florida! If I hadn't seen the address I would have thought Northern California, or even upstate NY.
Anthro towel in the bath? I have the same ones in a different color way.
I love that this is in Orlando! I'm from Orlando but am currently in LA. So many Southern California house tours, but it's refreshing to see something from home. Amazing work, your home is beautiful :)
Yay! Colonialtown! I have a bungalow in College Park (Orlando)... love love love.
Agreed: Tour, please?
Love everything about this adorable, comfortable bungalow. The work you've put into it shows...love all the paint colours (what is the bedroom grey colour?), love the outdoor spaces! A job well done, you should be very proud to call this place your home.
I never understood that term: "starter home." It's your home, you've put time and energy (and money!) into it, and it's beautiful. So, please, don't belittle or make excuses for it.
Looks very cute, I'd love to see the full tour, especially the kitchen!
Love the outdoor chairs around the firepit! Would you share the source?
The term "starter home" has been inflated over time. "Starter home" is now used for much bigger homes than it used to describe. It's just a realtor's trick for attracting first-time buyers.
It's a lovely home.
Agree with those who decry the term 'starter home.' It would be akin to me calling my spouse 'my first husband.' It dishonors the home (or husband).
very very nice!
I think to call this a "starter home" is very disingenuous. This is a very nice house that could be lived in indefinitely. Also, it's a little insulting to those of us who had REAL starter homes.
Sweet! Can you tell us what brand and color paint you used in the living room and bedroom? And the manufacturer and style of your bathroom sink? Thanks!
that "starter home" is larger than the home we just purchased to settle down and raise a family in. :) in any case, it's lovely. the backyard is beautiful.
This is a lovely home, but I think the most remarkable thing here is--you specified Colonialtown! It's like Orlando is a real city, with established, widely recognizable districts! It seems so...grownup.
Yeah, I live in Delaney Park.
So sweet, love the exterior colors.
What a lovely, charming home. Count me among those who dislike the term 'starter home,' particularly for jewels like this one.
Count me in among those who dislike the term 'starter home' as well. I felt it was insulting when realtors would make such comments or anyone else. I still live in mine and I'm glad I do given the economy. I also live in an area where these homes have become quite pricy. At any rate your home is quite lovely--a real jewel where one could live indefinitely.
Beautiful home! I live in Orlando and this is the area I love because of the character of the homes. The Craftsman bungalows are so lovely in Colonialtown. It's so much better than the more common, cookie-cutter "Florida" houses. Yes, I believe a full tour is in order. No pressure :) Thanks for sharing!
Good to see I'm not the only one who objects to the phrase "starter home." The implication is that we are to aspire to something "grander." The developers and real estate agents so fond of such offenses to the language and culture are the very people who would have us all striving to live in McMansions, which are themselves further offenses to good taste, so at least they're consistent. Consistently bad, but consistent.
Nice house. Is it your plan to sell it anytime soon?
lovin' your backyard! house tour! reminds me of our 1165 sq. ft. Cape Cod!
That front porch is incredibly inviting!
I, too, would like to know the source of the fire pit chairs. Also: the paint color in the bathroom. Very nice!
I think the term starter home is fine.... they're letting us know its their first one. I wish everyone would ease up with their firey comments all the time!
Thank you everyone for your wonderful and encouraging comments! I did want to express that we didn't mean to sound "snobby" or lessen the appreciation of our first home by calling it a "starter" home. I agree with what one commenter said, we simply were just expressing that this was our FIRST home and I had no idea that the term "starter" would be so offensive. This is absolutely the perfect house for us and we are so grateful for it!
Now, to get to answering some of your questions:
Outdoor firepit chairs: Sawyer Chair from CB2.com
Paint Colors: All colors are from the Behr Premium Plus Ultra Paint line.
Living Room: Perfect Taupe
Bedroom: Graceful Gray
Bathroom: Ethiopia
What a delightful home....and "starter" is totally acceptable. That's what we named our home, and 30 years later we're still in it!!! You did a beautiful job!
Wow, I had no idea the term "starter home" would be as unacceptable to some people as the porn post over the weekend. It started as simply a term for a first home, as opposed to the "final home" where one would permanently settle, raise a family, retire, be near loved ones, or whatever.
Whatever, Cara, your home is wonderful. It is clearly worth all the blood, sweat, tears, and effort.
Nancy- yes, thank you for understanding! I had NO idea either that term would upset so many people. Wasn't my intention at all.
