The painter Caravaggio worked wonders with light. Danish designer Cecilie Manz created the Caravaggio pendant lamp to provide a simple and elegant design that is suitable for many applications — it comes in five sizes ranging from a small pendant (6.5" in diameter) to a mega pendant appropriate for large scale commercial projects...

The newest addition to the Caravaggio series is the Caravaggio Opal — instead of an opaque metal shade, the Opal's shade is translucent white glass. This provides a softer light than the original design:

Caravaggio is produced by LightYears. Available from Nova 68 in high gloss lacquered aluminum in black or white. Opal version features a glass shade. Black lamp comes with red cord and white lamp comes with a dark grey cord. The small pendant starts at $195.

I love the Caravaggio pendant lamps, I'm a professional designer and was able to purchase them from the importer at the New York Design Center .... they have them on display and can deliver them quickly... I received mine in three days.
Here is a link to their website:

I love how this light is pretty unspectacular alone but showstopping in a room (aka the way you're meant to see it.) Now THAT'S great design!
These light are so spectacular in a very simplistic way, especially when you group them together. They also are available in white too. You can find them here at this great Scandinavian online store: http://www.huset-shop.com/caravaggio-pendant-lamps-p-734.html
