Have a look at a warm Caribbean home and breezy island lifestyle enjoyed by designer India Hicks, and perhaps you'll feel inspired to help those in the region who are currently unable to enjoy the natural beauty of the place.
The home is understated, and each room provides a blank slate on which simple pieces are highlighted. Many elements from the natural world find their way indoors, such as textured wood, colorful plants, and even animals. And each room is sure to provide a grand view of the home's most valued asset — the land that surrounds it.
Not too far away from this property in the Bahamas, homes have been devastated by natural disaster. But there will be ample opportunity for rebuilding soon, and while most people may not seek shelter as elaborate, let's hope there is as much brightness and comfort to come for them.
Some friends with the Fordham Disaster Relief Network are leaving for Haiti tomorrow in order to provide educational daycare for children whose schools were destroyed in the recent earthquake. They will be updating their blog frequently and are accepting donations here. Please visit often to chart their progress!

Wow, this is beautiful. Can someone explain to me the placement of the palms touching the ceiling? To me it seems to highlight a low ceiling.
this is beautiful. i usually don't like white walls but this is gorgeous. i don't like the palms touching the ceiling- i think it would look better as a floor plant with a smaller, although still dramatic, plant taking its place. and that can't be good for the palm.
I have seen the photos of this house many times but I never tire of looking at them...great design.
any ideas about where to get a chair like the brown and white chair with the diamond patterns?
Pretty sure those are just cut palm fronds in a vase.

Chair looks vintage, with a Hicks fabric on it.
