We'll preface this by saying that all tips in this article also work for those who, ahem, aren't necessarily on vacation, but need a little help remembering to water the plants, just the same.
Though there are many, many self-watering pots out there, we like the simplicity of the shoestring method described in the article, and we think we might want to try it, substituting the lace for a similarly absorbent but more attractive piece of string.
