Name: Carlos & Debbie
Location: Dixon Mills pencil factory in downtown Jersey City, New Jersey
We live in an old factory, where the #2 Ticonderoga pencils were originally made. It is considered one of the largest historical landmarks in the United States. The apartments here were recently converted to condos. After living here for 20 years, we purchased our unit two years ago and have been renovating ever since.
We have amazing space and high ceilings, my husband knew exactly the vision he wanted to create. Clean, modern, lots of light and his customized unique design. Our biggest challenge were the concrete floors that were over a 100 years old, 2 feet thick and badly damaged. It took 2 companies, one sanding, three different pours of concrete and seven samples later to find the perfect texture and color. The upstairs carpeted floors were replaced by bamboo flooring and all the closets in frosted glass, which is fluid throughout both upstairs and downstairs.
Thanks Carlos & !

Ercol Bar Stool
That is a lot of black leather. I'd like to see some softness added--maybe a sheepskin? I do like the bedroom.
I agree about all that black leather and those hard surfaces; rather harsh for me. I absolutely love that bed though. Sheepskin is a good suggestion; some softness and color are needed.
It is a little S&M, I agree with queenbee1230. But you seem to love it so who cares what we think?
Would love to have seen the before photos.
The kitchen is nice - too much white, it needs an element or warmth, such as wood. The sitting area - too much wassily and too much leather, the dining area has too much brno chair and too much leather, maybe the leather could have been in a warm color it would have been better. The art above the bed is too 80s, unless it is there for a reason. Overall this apartment seems like a wealthy bachelor from the 80s and it has not one element of a "woman's touch" in there. I thought a woman lives in here....
I agree...some softness is needed here.
You've obviously put in alot of hard work. Add some colour with plants and art and you'll be there. Well done.
Love the dog bed. Where did you buy it from?
The dog seems to be color coordinated with the interior. Cowinkydink?
I love glass tables, but in this room of white and black it kind of gets lost. There's a beautiful shattered glass table I saw at http://www.highfashionhome.com/ that would stand out and bring more attention to this room.
The bones of the apartment (the floor, cabinets, ceilings) are great!
The furniture and accessories, not so much! (OK - they're really bad.)
How chic, a stainless steel urinal next to the toilet.
I like the bathroom.
Looks great, but more like a 80's bachelor pad than the home of a husband and wife. Its all chrome and leather and hard surfaces. And that Nagel over the bed!
The bamboo floors really add warmth upstairs and we see some personality through family photos and flowers which is nice.
Two things that really really need to go - the torchier lamps! I know they provide great light, but there are so many better alternatives!
I'm not saying I don't like it, I'm just suggesting more Yin and less Yang would be nice.
Not anywhere close to being my style, but I at least appreciate the consistency of the '80s yuppie throwback look -- right now to the Nagel print over the bed and the Porsche on the TV screen! It's very American Psycho.
I agree with anna, EIGHTIES! and boring too.. a lot of hard work but very little visible personality.
I would swear this place was featured in Metropolitain Home in 1985...
I had to double-check that there was actually a dog, he blends right in. The only room in this house that looks like anyone actually lives there is the bedroom.
is this Met Home 1986? Normally I am not harsh at all, but this place seems like yuppie time capsule.
hmm "Miami Vice" vibe but if there could only be a little less it would look better such as the picture on top of the bed that's a total "no, no" according to my taste!
That Nagel is killing me. KILLING. ME. DEAD.
I thought I'd seen the last of that bastid.
great building, we live a few blocks from them in another loft building. their decorating style isn't for me (those couches look horrendously uncomfortable and way too crowded in that space) but the bones of the place are amazing.
