Name: Carly
Location: Gerstle Park, San Rafael, California
Our litte red victorian house was built in 1900, has 13 foot ceilings and is 1300 square feet. The ceilings and the light (it's a corner lot) make it feel much larger and we love our small home. We have lived here for 2 years and got married in the back yard!
Our style is a mixture of old and new. My husband's family has been in the wine/whisky business for generations and we have inherited some pretty cool items, family photos and art; like the amazing dining room table-with the most unusual and comfortable chairs. I'm a freelance designer so a lot of our art is mine, giving everything a really personal feel. I like to keep things neat, clean and spacious feeling, not too many items. But I also love to mix patterns and bright colors. I got sick of purchasing flowers so all of ours are paper.
The most challenging thing in our house was the TV placement. When we first bought the house there was a mirror above the fire place that was bolted in. Ready? It was covering, no joke a big black hole, that, if you could move the (seemingly) 80 pound mirror, could be used for storage. We removed the mirror, painted the whole the same color as the walls, added molding to match the house and put in a shelf! Now it is the perfect place for the TV without overpowering the room.
My favorite part of the house is the back porch which is private, so cozy and has a decent view. It over looks the hills and the original barn that is now a garage.

Beautiful home. What is the paint colour in your living room?
I absolutely love your house! Can you tell me what the paint color is in your living room (grey)? I would also love to know where you found that awesome chandelier. Well done!
Looks like a great place! Your kitty is adorable, too :)
Those are the exact colors that I am planning on using for our living room/dining room combo. I love it! Please share the paint color for both! Thanks
I love everything in the dining room...the paint color on the wall, the funky chairs, the chandelier, the view of the living room, and especially the bar display you've got!
Would enjoy a full house tour....and love the kitty.
Surely "13ft" a typo on the ceiling height? My best guess would be 10ft from the pictures.
Wonderful paint color in the living room! Looks lovely!
Thank you Apartment Therapy Readers, the room colors are both Martha Stewart colors, I'm sorry I can't remember the green in the dining room but the living room is cobblestone, its cooler than the actual color though since it was a light blue originally and we didn't use a primer. I would also recommend the cement color, we did it for our bedroom and its great! Its a bit of a darker grey but I think you may like it!
The chandelier came with the house-- so that was luck, but Electric School has some good single light fixtures.
Those dining chairs are the bomb!
just lovely
Thank you! I'll post more photos of the full tour soon on my blog! -GreatHallScott
Hi Carly! It's Emily Hoops. Your place looks great. I'm trying to talk my hubs into taking a trip to SF in May. If we actually make it, I'll give you a call.
I love the dining chairs, how fun!
The dining room chairs are gorgeous!
The porch looks soo relaxing!
Love the feel. I love this neighborhood. Old San Rafael!
