- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- My downtown front porch is a southern hotspot for hello's and how are ya's. The chorus of city sounds surrounds my building. But once inside my room, the hubbub hushes and the house speaks for itself. Sure, I filled it with me and mine. But that for which I'm not responsible is what I love most - the creaky wood floor, each door a different size, the crumbly paint painted over too many times. I had to compromise with the architecture, to complement its vintage character with my own collection of aged, second-hand belongings. I feel that interior design is a conversation that doesn't end until you move and start a new one. My bedroom and I are still talking. But we're getting somewhere. I wish you could come sit in here, the shifting light is just beautiful in the afternoon.
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- Are there Rules of decorating? Do you know them? Ignore them. They are irrelevant to the creatively-abled. A cow hide cannot deem a space "classy" or "confident," no single piece can (especially if you buy it for that reason). Design for yourself. And respect the space you've created! Keep it clean - don't clutter the couch, the walls, the beside table. If it's not important, it's trash. And if it is important, treat it so!
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- My century-old home is far from modern, but my bedroom is certainly more than a place to sleep. Oh, the joys of studio apartments... In terms of design, however, I am grateful for my lack of square footage, for creativity blossoms best where it is needed most. I make the most of my bedroom by embracing the layers. I leave the door open to make my closet accessible. I throw blankets on pillows on blankets. Curtains part to bare cloth blinds. The tray on my chair's side table holds still the Thai cloth beneath it, which distracts from the scratched wood below. Wires on wood against greeny velvet... An ordered collection of stuff is only what you make it. Welcome to my home.

Love your design philosophy and this room. Not crazy about the artwork but the dog makes up for it so ... a favourite from me.
You are a great writer! I like the artwork - reminds me of Arthur Secunda, which they may be. I have a few of his VERY colorful pieces and really like them.
looks so cozy
what is the finish on your ceiling?
The second I saw the first photo I was transported back to the cozy Southern style my Grandmama had in her guest room. She was from Rocky Mount so maybe it's a North Carolina thing.Gracious style.
Love what you wrote. The bed looks especially nice--wish the pictures were a little lighter/clearer.
Very cozy looking. But what happened to the 4th bed post? In any case, the cute dog on the couch earns a favorite from me.
NC...gotta have a pretty hound. :)
Love your writing! And I absolutely love your style and room.
Thank you everyone for your feedback and kind words!
Artwork - My mom drove this hand painted fabric back from the South Dakota Sioux Reservation she lived on and stretched it onto frames. Sure, they're simple and soft-spoken, but they're one of a kind and I love them.
Ceiling Finish - No clue Messie, sorry!
4th Bed Post - It was interrupting the flow. So I sawed it off.
And as for the dog, I rented it to win ya'll over. Juuust kidding. Sully's mine and she's my world, so naturally she's spoiled and regards the valuable vintage couch as her own.
Really like this space, bohemian but organized and all the colors work so well together. The couch is amazing!
