- Carolyn

- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- I love the high ceiling and stature of our bedroom. I also love the original woodwork and period details in the crown moldings, ceiling medallion, fireplace, pocket doors with etched glass, parlor mirror and window shutters.
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- I always value a good night's sleep. For me, the bedroom has to be relaxing and comfortable with little or no reminders of anything stressful. TVs, computers, electronic devices, paperwork, clutter - all these keep you in an anxious state of mind. I try to keep these away, especially at night. Restful lighting. Aromatherapy.
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- When my husband and I moved that sofa from our living room into the bedroom, we were just giving it a temporary place while I set it up for sale on Craigslist. It has since been greatly appreciated and enjoyed. We have breakfast in it while listening to the morning news on the radio. Drenched in natural light, we find it perfect for reading, playing music, tea, coffee, napping, or just snuggling and catching up. Looks like we have found the perfect place for it. And it is staying, indefinitely.

I had to pick my jaw up off the floor before I could comment. I would kill for a place with that much gorgeous detail and historical character. SWOON.
Holy cow, that woodwork! The whole space is an incredible canvas, and you've done such a nice job with it. The sofa was an excellent call.
That woodwork makes me want to cry. So spectacular. And that etched glass!
Love the space and the green monster inside me kind of hates you.
I thought this was an international entry. This house is really gorgeous and amazing.
I bet ya those wood work can cost more than a lot of houses.
THOSE DOORS!!!! Yep, totally jealous!
Amazing woodwork and moldings. So beautiful. Only thing I don't like is the NYC print above the bed. This room deserves better. Sigh. Carolyn - you can sometimes pick up very affordably priced oil paintings etc from Christie's Interior Auctions at Rockefeller Center.
Weeping with joy that such a well preserved apartment exists and that you decorated it so beautifully. PLEASE share your paint colors. I love how the walls look yellow in some light and almost honey/peach in others.
My favorite thus far. You do have an unfair advantage with all that wood, but the manner in which you've decorated your bedroom is pretty spectacular too! ;)
This is the best one by far. The woodwork is gorgeous!!
I agree with the others...the doors are so beautiful!
This is incredible, and I thought my house had good woodwork! Would love to see the rest of your gorgeous home.
I just want to make a clear counterpoint to all those on this site that keep saying "paint the woodwork." Painting this woodwork would definitely decrease the value of this space.
Btw. - What do the etched glass doors lead to?
I want to see more of the woodwork! Absolutely beautiful! The room is okay but the doors are what steals the show. Not sure how to vote or if I will vote for that though.
Egads! That's a bedroom? The detail, the wood, that door!
I think my current apartment will fit in there!
Holy crap, that door. Is there anything else in the room? Because I just see a beautiful door.
Well hello Hoboken! The light is gorgeous. Sometimes rooms with dark stained woodwork can be a bit too dark, cold and old looking. The color choices and the fact that some of the woodwork is painted helps brighten and warm the space. Lovely.
Wow, that woodwork! What a stunning place you live! Gorgeous!
LOVE those pocket doors & fireplace! 1870s? 1880s?
Gasp. I think I'm in love.
Yes, those doors, that fireplace, = added my vote.
@LBoyes: Totally agree that it would be criminal to paint this woodwork, BUT so much wood is not nearly as nice. Beat up old oak and pine needs paint, unless it's a really fine piece of furniture (or floors).
WHERE IN HOBOKEN IS THIS?! Amazing details!
*Wow*.
I second the "wow" and "stunning." Gorgeous!
I love everything inside your room.....the way you decorate it......so "WOW" and so "gorgeously beautiful". That door and the wood floor, so gorgeous. You're such a talented one.I always love all your creations.Congrats:)
Beautiful! Love the color pallete and the way you accessorize your bedroom. Wonderful balance between light and dark, vintage and modern. A warm and inviting space to relax at the end of a busy day. Well done!
Thank you for your comment, rmpc78. The print above the bed is temporary. I just did not want a big blank space there while my husband's promised oil painting is in the works. If you notice there is already a white primed canvas above the fireplace, ready to be painted. If you want a glimpse of some of my husband's oil paintings, I managed to pull up a 2007 post on AT's Reader's Art featuring our home : http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/readers-art-car-16901
@thorndale : Thanks! The paints are all Martha Stewart Everyday Colors : "Sand Dollar" for the walls, "Fine White" for the ceiling, and "Quahaug" for the trim. Your observation about the walls are spot on. They change depending on the light. Honey/peach when light is bounced from the dark wood. :)
@britabroad : Thanks. A couple of old posts featuring our home on AT :

@LBoyes : The etched glass pocket doors lead to the Living and Dining area.
@Polly S. Thanks! All the Victorian woodwork are original to the house which was built in 1904.
@rmbnn : Thank you for your vote.
@Lauren C., we are on Hudson Street. Thanks!
Stunning!...Awesome!...Gorgeous!
I've been here countless times and every time I am amazed at how beautiful it is.
And how you put them all together - light, colors, fixtures, accessories is equally impressive. Looking forward for my next visit... as always.
@CarolJ-where are the nightstands from? Love them!
@LisaMarie7713 I got the nightstands/shelves from Bombay Company more than a decade ago. Thanks!
are you stinking kidding me with those doors???? <3
