Q: My boyfriend and I just moved into a new apartment and would love some fresh ideas for decorating the living room. We need to buy a carpet because the floors in my building are a bit creaky and the guy underneath us has complained because of our walking. We really wouldn't buy a carpet otherwise because the floors are beautiful, but we found out that carpet is mandatory by law in NYC apartments and needs to cover larger areas.
Since we need to buy a carpet, we were thinking of something natural in either a dark beige or espresso color, but would love your ideas on the color and suggestions for where to buy a nice one (either 5x8 or 8x10) for less than $300. Most important to me is that it's easy to clean because I have a small dog that can get a bit dirty. I also would likely steer away from patterns and stick with solids.
In addition, we would love your thoughts on the window coverings. We were considering either vertical blinds or curtains. The only thing with vertical blinds is that it might block the window ledge, and I like having the option of using that space and keeping it open.
We also plan to stain the table a darker shade (maybe black or dark brown) until we can afford a different one. We look forward to your thoughts on the carpet and window coverings, and any additional ideas you might have for improving the space! Thanks for your help and ideas!
