I found my apartment through Craigslist when I was looking for a room to rent when I moved from California to New York 2 years ago. I moved in with 2 male roommates and we had NO decor — we barely even had the necessities. When I took over the lease last March and moved in my 2 girlfriends I let loose and executed my dream NYC apartment. My mom is an artist and both her and my art is sprinkled throughout the apartment.
Thanks Carrie!

awesome deco! love especially the motives on the walls.
I was all about it until we got to the bedroom. I think the bedding and that heinous lamp are throwing it off for me, sorry!
Funny I am the opposite of keepcalmcarryon, I didn't really feel it until I saw the bedroom. I am usually all about the color, but I think the copper ceiling and blue are too much for me, I would prefer one or the other as opposed to both in the space. I do love all the little personal touches throughout and the gorgeous mantles.
Love it! Very girly. Especially like the litty quirky humor touches, like the fork art in the kitchen. Your bedding and dressers are gorgeous.
Too much accessories lying around for me (live in a very dusty place, not urban so you gotta wipe things down constantly) but it works for where you are.
Oh my gosh, I love EVERYTHING! Colors, art, wall paintings... great job :)
Haha loving the large fork and spoon in the kitchen!
First, how AWESOME IS THAT CEILING????
I like the overall idea, but I agree with dirce79 that that shade of blue, in combination with the copper ceiling and orange-y hued doors and cabinets is a little, well, off. Plus, I will throw in that I wish we'd all hurry up and get over the wall decal thing.
Otherwise I think the furniture and accessories look great, very glam in a NYC rental.
*drooooooooool*
Horrid
Girly and pretty. Love it.
A riot of colors. I just don't know how I feel about it yet.
It's just all over the place.
It looks like www.claires.com threw-up all over it.
(meaning, it looks like a teeny-bopper dream come true). Ugh.
Jeebus, you're allowed to do stuff like this to rentals in NYC?!
My old lease forbade me from even putting nails in the walls, let alone paint and copper ceilings. . .
Yeah, I really try to not be one of the people leaving snotty and negative comments on AT, but this looks absolutely ridiculous.
I'm really glad you love it, though!
It doesn't look like something we've seen a million times, which makes it aces in my book.
The blue and copper are fighting for attention. Far too many focal points.
I think it's a great blue, that copper ceiling is throwing off the entire apartment.
The blue paint is not applied very well as you can streaks over the mantle.
Think it may need another coat.
People are so rude. @Priscilla -- where's your home tour? Let's see it, so we can give you our one-word, completely non-constructive feedback. If something's not working for you, at least have the respect to tell them why.
I guess the anonymity of the forum makes people forget that this is someone's home! The home of a real person, with feelings.
I think it's adorable! I love that blue, and have always coveted metal ceilings, or even faux metal ceilings. I think it's spunky and adorable.
Cute! Very high spirit...the room size threw me a little, but that is where you should go to sleep. Good job.
I absolutely love it!
It's spirited and bright. I like the copper ceiling very much.
I'm a sucker for a saturated palette and a quirky dollhouse effect.
I do feel like the bedroom is at such a different colour value from the living room that its a little jarring. I think I would have either iced the blue down, or embraced a richer, perhaps Moroccan-inspired or Indian-inspired bedroom.
BUT I'M NOT HATING. Please don't take me as a rude gross person.
It looks like you are having a blast, and that looks great to me. I would much rather see something bold and risky in a tight spot than the a safe gray palette and some mcm teak.
I think this is a really fun spot! Clever ideas, lots of colour - looks like the perfect place to hang out. And I bet it beats just about any 'roomie' apartment anyone could find. While it's not my personal style, I think it's a fun and creative spot for a fun stage in life.
I find it terribly unfortunate that AT even allows the sort of unhelpful and inappropriately rude comments such as those above. Sites such as Young House Love simply don't have these comments, as they clearly state their comment expectations and then monitor them accordingly.
I at one point thought it would be fun to someday host a house tour. Now? I have no desire to do so. I'm happy to take constructive criticism, but the foul venting that happens here is dreadful. Why put yourself out there?
Kudos to you, Carrie, for sharing your fun and inventive space. Please continue to enjoy your home!
Love, love, love!! I have been living in NY for 5yrs now & know how hard it is to make a {tiny, old} NY apt feel like home! Much less make it lovely & girly! Props to you Carrie!
Ok, it may be over the top, but this is totally in keeping with the spirit of the West Village, where she lives. context is everything. there has to be room on AT for house tours that aren't filled with midcentury danish teak furniture. I find it fun and whimsical!
I love it! Great color and personality. I can see your creativity.
i think it's fun!
yay! so fun.
Gorgeous and vaguely reminiscent of Carrie Bradshaw. Love it.
I love the fork and knife art in the kitchen!
The color combo in the living room is a bit too much for me, but I like the weathered paint effect. I think it actually helps the ceiling and walls go together better.
I can't believe some of the comments this is getting. I believe "haters gonna hate" is the expression.
I love it. This is so much more bold and fun than a lot of things on here. The blue wall and the copper ceiling are good complimentary colors. The copper is pure class, but the blue makes it a fun space.
You've really opened up that tiny bedroom by turning the bed that way. I know it should feel claustrophobic, but it doesn't.
Now please, could you share where you found that human shaped floor lamp?
I think if you just painted the blue wall a rich neutral color and traded in the pink lamp for a truly glam lamp (like with a clear lucite base) you would have a more pulled together look. Don't worry about the negativity in some of the comments!
This is a fun, interesting and dramatic space.
Let me correct myself-- I think if you painted the entire living room a rich neutral color a lot would be accomplished!
Thanks for all of your feedback Apartment Therapy! It was a fun project. We had a small budget to put the entire apartment together ($4500 for the entire apartment including furniture). Most of the furniture and furnishings were sourced from overstock, ikea, target, etsy, craigslist, and the doorstoor...and some items were grandfathered in from my last roommates (ie. the oscar lamp).
It is a very old apartment and the ceiling and fireplaces actually came that way. (The fireplaces used to be working fireplaces to keep the apartment warm).
I love the character that the blue wall gives to the space along with the copper ceiling. This is a space FULL of personality and spunk. Kudos! Love your bedroom as well. The bedspread and the furniture are glamorous!
Terrific ceiling, great floors but the shade of blue doesn't do it for me.
Absolutely fabulous...love this apartment and all its colour and character!
The pictures of this place are phenomenal! I think it all works and shows alot of personality. Carrie, can you tell us where you got the Marilyn Monroe wall art in the bedroom?

While it's not my taste, I really enjoyed this post as I've been getting a little bored of AT lately - all the recent house tours/calls have kinda blended together in my mind and also seem to feature people who, by and large, seem to have no budget restrictions. With this post I feel much more that I'm looking round a real person's home and being given a snapshot of their taste and personality, rather than looking at a glossy interiors magazine. Nicely done!
looks like a really fun place to be !
CArrie!!! Could you please post some more info on the Oscar lamp! Or maybe ask your old roomies? Love itttt
