With the Square credit card reader now available at the Apple store, we can only expect more and more people to be carrying around this tiny smartphone attachment. Whether you already have a Square reader or are thinking about purchasing one, you may want to consider buying a case with a keyring to keep it safe and easily on hand. Check out some case options for your Square reader, after the jump.
For those unfamiliar with Square, see our recent post Mobile Credit Card Payments: Square vs Intuit. In the past if you wanted your own Square credit card reader for your smartphone, you had to fill in a form on Square's website and wait patiently for your free reader in the mail. Now you can skip the wait—the Square reader recently became available at Apple stores for $10 a pop. However if you're wondering why you should bother paying $10 for a product that's free on Square's website, here's your answer: if you buy the reader in stores, Square will give you a $10 credit once you activate your account.
With the Square reader being such a small on-the-go device, keeping it safe can be an issue. This is where a case comes in handy, and we've found a few:
- Square Credit Card Reader 3D Printed Hinged Case ($25) - Made of lightweight nylon material and using 3D printing, this case comes in 8 different colors. It has a built-in hinge and snaps shut with your choice of a lanyard or keychain attachment.
- No Logo Square Reader Case ($14-18) - This case is identical to the case above but has no logo. Although it has a slightly cheaper price tag, it doesn't come with a keychain ring or lanyard. It also lacks an extra coat of protective varnish.
- The Square Pouch ($10-14) - These come in a variety of colors in two different styles. The longer option protects the entire reader while the other leaves the headphone port sticking out. Shipping is free. More styles are available here (one includes a metal case).
