Challenge: Replacing someone else's color choice
Watch Cassandra transform her rental with paint:
When Cassandra moved into her Victorian house a few years ago, the walls had been newly painted a dusty yellow color. Overwhelmed by the idea of repainting on top of moving in, Cassandra put it off…until now: "We desperately need a good paint job," she says. "We don't plan to move for another year or two, so I see painting as a way to make the apartment feel fresh and new again." We teamed up with Glidden Paint this summer to work with Cassandra and two other renters and help them explore how color can transform a rental into a home.
Cassandra wanted a cool grey to replace the warm yellow in her bedroom. Nicole Balch, Colortopia Team Member and author of the blog, Making It Lovely, sent over 3 Glidden Paint options: Smoky Charcoal, Dolphin Grey and Polished Pewter. Cassandra wanted a rich grey to make her bedroom feel more cozy, but she didn't want it to feel too dark, so she went with Dolphin Grey, a medium grey with lavender undertones.
The result is a cool, cozy grey that perfectly complements the bright teal and red of Cassandra's bedding and curtains. And now Cassandra is inspired to keep on going! "Well this room now looks so fresh and bright that it just makes me want to tackle all the other rooms!"
Now Cassandra's bedroom is no longer a temporary landing pad decorated with someone else's choices. It's a fresh, cozy space that matches Cassandra's taste.
