Remarkably beautiful things in an amazing storefront space. Soaring ceilings, huge windows and gallery-like white walls compliment the hand-made pieces...

...at the Halsted Street shop, Caste, which opened its doors late last year. The partners behind Caste are Ty Best and Brad Rowley. Brad is the business guy, who was very friendly and charming when we stopped in...

...and Ty is the designer of the pieces featured at the shop. The goods range from artwork and objects to furniture. Handmade, they are very organic in design and materials, featuring a range of rich woods mixed with metals and displayed with various natural elements such as antlers and stone.

Prices are understandably higher than mass produced items but the pieces look and feel very special - they are the type of pieces that really would add to the artistic sensibility of any room; sculptural, beautiful and unique.

We admired the overall environment as well, which includes charcoal sketches hand drawn directly on the walls (a really good idea - super looking and a great impermanent decorative element) and the custom chandeliers shown in the top photo, which we absolutely loved.

We recommend a visit to Caste for a look at only-in-Chicago style from a fresh design voice.

Caste is located at 521 N. Halsted. 312.432.0717.
