I am not a cat person, but I found this blog that collects images of cat ladders fascinating. Simply and accurately described as "A picture gallery and a tribute to all the fantastic cat-ladders of the world.", the blog is a great source of inspiration and cat-friendly engineering — let's just hope that only welcomed critters use these elaborate stairways!

Shaw's Original Fir...
Ok, that first pics scares me. I know cats are agile but, they can and have slipped off of things like that. My neighbor's cat fell off a wall and it wasn't even steep.
modernguy - had he been drinking?
divine
It was just a thin path, about 5 inches thick but it was on the side of an underground parking entrance that was about 12 feet below. I Just want people to be cautious before they make one for their pet. It was very sad.
Modernguy that first one makes me nervous too!
Very cool idea. Never saw cat stairs before.
Why do people who don't like cats seem to feel a need to point this out? (Italicized no less) "I am not a cat person", "I hate cats but this is pretty cute", etc.
Reading that blog, it sounds like Europe is riddled with cat ladders!
I am not a cat person, but I thought this was cute!
I would love if my neighbor had one and I saw a cat walking by my window.
Great fun idea but I live on the 13th floor. My cat kelly Jane will have to be content staying indoors. I do have a balcony and I'm trying to figure out some type of enclosure for her. Any suggestions?
Forget the cats, what about the people below? Whether on the street or just a neighbor on a lower floor who may be leaning out their window, those ladders look like a potential danger--the first one in particular. How secure is it?
my cat is indoors only but I'd be so scared to see any cat on that first ladder!
I love cats.
i didn't know cats can be let out of city apartments such as pics 1-3. they look like buildings along a busy street.
emeryville, i hope not so secure that unwelcome people can climb them ;)
One of the links shows how to make the free standing ladders, The look very secure to me! I can easily see my cat going in and out using one of these OR I just may make one for my cat to use to get to higher places she loves in the house!
Thanks for putting this on AT!
I made a cat stair when I still lived in Amsterdam! My dear cat needed 2 weeks to get the trick, but it worked very, very well! He was happy not to be locked up in a small apartment, free to go whenever he wanted to go outside.
I'm thinking that if a leopard can drag it's prey up a tree, a typical housecat will be fine walking along one of these. I've seen cats do stranger and more dangerous things, completely unscathed.
