Cat Radiator Beds from the UK

We can't find these anywhere in the US, but they seem to be pretty widespread in the UK. The design is a bed that hooks over the top of a radiator, offering kitty a place to lounge in comfy warmth. And, if the Flickr photos below can attest to it, cats appear to love them...

They're generally covered in fleece or faux shearling. Some of the beds we've spotted are made by: Cosy Cat, Kumfy Kradle, and ExtraComfort.

There has to be some retailer here that sells them? Lot's of folks in the US still have radiators.

I think those cool, slim Euro-radiators are warm water systems. In contrast, places like Chicago tend to have old steam-based systems which get REALLY hot. I would therefore worry that Kitty might get roasted on a Chicago radiator cozy.

UK radiators are very thin (not deep/low profile to wall), and I think they don't get quite as hot, so if you can find these they probably won't fit most bulky US radiators!

This would be a cool DIY though - to create something that they can hang out on! My dog would die for this - he loves to lay by the radiator in winter.

My kitty would be the happiest critter in the universe if I could get her one of these that wouldn't roast her.

when I lived in Indiana, we had big old steam radiators. they did get pretty dang hot.. but no danger of fire.
our cats were super-good at jumping up onto the radiator.. where they would sleep all day on the scalding hot metal.

I have no radiator these days.. but i'd like to find something like these that could attach to/ extend a windowsill. my cat would appreciate that.

My current DIY solution for this is a small sheepskin rug in front of the radiator for my teacup Yorkie. She loves it, but she would love this even more. Anyone with smart ideas on how to recreate this without fire for NYC steam radiators would be beloved by this thread.

i had one of these when i lived in the UK and yes, my cat LOVED it. out of 5 cats he claimed it as his own and lived in it all the time. :) it is quite easy to make from what I remember from taking it out of the box and hooking it on the radiator. the hooks actually fold in and then it's covered in the fabric. very simple construction. and yes, they're widespread.. very easy to find in the UK

These are the BESSSTTTT!! I'll have to do something nice like that for my U.S. radiator/cat!..Maybe a scrap of 'shearling' or such.in front of one..in a basket?? Wonder who 'thought it up' ?

I think these are made for those British radiators- the flat ones with a dial to control the temperature, many of which are electrical. I'd be worried about putting one over a gas or steam-filled radiator, less so if it was a hot water radiator. My last apt. had steam heat and those got boiling (no joke) hot.

Wow, for a second there I thought the bottom cat was mine. He looks exactly like mine (although mine has a black spot on his nose/cheek) and I used to have the same type of cat bed. It was the floor that gave it away as mine's a bit darker.

But to get back on track, my cat loves it but I chose to take the thing away because I don't have room for it in my current layout and, having the furry kind, found it troublesome to get all the hair out.

Here in Germany you can find them everywhere, too.

I don't have one yet, as they often come in not-so pretty colours or patterns. It is one of my future projects in winter to sew a beautyfull off-white cover for a radiator bed.

Actually our cats sleep in the Eames chairs we recently bought for our livingroom. The Eames chairs weren't supposed to serve as a cat bed...

I got to say, my two cats love them too. Mine has moved with me to 4 different apartments, all with different styled radiators. Mine fits on radiators up to 3.9 inches (or 10cm). I had it on smaller radiators before. Now it hangs on a 5.9 inches(15cm) radiator, but there is a perfect opening where I can fit the hangers on 3.9 inches. As someone all ready wrote, the hooks fold easily. Also easy to take of and wash the fabric. But yes, i have warm water system radiators..

Bottommost picture, if you are in Montreal, I think I have a sibling of your kitten. Was he or she a rescue you got from Animalerie Too Zoo on St-Laurent?
