Swedish-American furniture designer Greta Magnusson Grossman (1906 - 1999), whose work spanned industrial design, interior design and architecture, drew attention in 1933 when she became the first woman to win an award for furniture design from the Stockholm Craft Association. Floor lamps are like long necklaces or draped scarves: their lines and curves elongate vertical space and provide extra character and style. Especially bold and dramatic are oversized lamps, which play with our established sense of space, scale and proportion.
