As many as 15,000 South Africans are expected to protest a painting called "The Spear," in which President Jacob Zuma's genitals are exposed. Done in the style of Soviet-era propaganda, the work is by artist Brett Murray and is currently hanging in Johannesburg's Goodman Gallery.

I took this pic last night as the sun was setting over the East Deck Motel in Ditch Plains, Montauk, and we were grilling dinner. It summed up the calm and sated feeling that has been this spectacular Memorial Day weekend over here on the east coast. Below is another shot of the front hall of our friend's house during their lunch and pool party yesterday. The profusion of shoes sums up the happy chaos of that event, and you just have to imagine the shouts and yelps of over a dozen children jumping in and out of the pool in the backyard all afternoon.

Despite the rain and fog obstructing the view, the Tokyo Sky Tree opened today. The world's tallest tower at 2,040 feet (680 meters), the structure survived the 2011 earthquake and has come to symbolize the steadfastness of the Japanese people.
