Of all the rooms in my house the "second bedroom" has been the hardest to resolve. Yes, I'm grateful for the extra space, but rather than be efficient with it, the room has mostly become an oversized storage closet — all the miscellaneous stuff gets thrown in there, including a desk, old couch, drying rack, books, etc. I'd really love for it to be a true combination home office and guest bedroom. But is it even possible? Here are few inspirational photos that give me hope.
There are so many questions to ask when choosing a bedroom color: does this color go with the things I already own? What color is most flattering to be around while naked? What does Pantone say I should like this year? But since we spend most of our bedroom time sleeping, the most important question might be: does the color of your bedroom affect how much sleep you get? A new study suggests it might.
MoreGrowing up, the only type of couches my family owned were futons. I thought they were the coolest — you could change the covers, they expanded for sleepovers, and they seemed much more modern than an overstuffed sofa. Nowadays futons are more often associated with dorm rooms than cool furniture. However, there's no denying a futon's small space convenience. Here are a few convertible options for your post-collegiate home.
I love bedrooms that are well-styled, but I also love the clean simplicity of a bed that looks like it's seriously meant for sleeping in, with cloud-like crisp white bedding and a few downy pillows.
This past weekend I packed up my wool sweaters, and I got out my summer dresses and sandals. Next weekend I hope to tuck away my winter blankets and swap them out for lightweight ones. If you are in the market for a new summer blanket, here are five pretty handwoven ones.
It's a gem finding handmade artisans that fit your style. The pieces featured here are unique, beautifully crafted and made mostly of eco-friendly or natural materials. They're also very modern, without the patchwork look that sometimes comes with handmade goods.
MoreI’m sure popular and medical wisdom would both indicate when you’re injured, you should rest. Similarly, when you’re recuperating in bed, working on your laptop isn’t helpful for faster recovery. That said, this week I found myself in a situation where I had to spend a considerable amount of time in bed (ironically, I threw my lower back out rearranging furniture in my home office, and the first few days immobilized me), but I also had to keep working (I’m a freelancer and can’t afford to miss my deadlines).
MoreI don't know whether I'm more impressed by this carefully executed IKEA hack incorporating a Nokia Qi inductive charger into an IKEA HEMNES nightstand for wireless charging or the beautiful video documentation of the project itself...
Night lights aren't just for kids. They are great in the bathroom, keeping you from stubbing toes during night-time visits. They're also a cool alternative to votive candles to create mood during parties.
MoreI love the warmth and texture that a quilt adds to the bedroom but traditional versions tend to feel a bit to granny chic for my taste. These modern picks make it easy to find one that will suit any style.
