- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- I love that our bedroom carries a beautiful history. It lies in our DIY headboard. Itâs a solid mahogany family heirloom of 70+ years. During the German invasion of Czechoslovakia in the 30âs, my husbandâs motherâs parents fled to Africa where they lived in Nigeria, running a rubber plantation and eventually migrated to Toronto, Canada. Their possessions were packed in 23 crates of solid mahogany. His grandfatherâs plan was to use it to build furniture for their home once they settled. This piece was given to my husband as the largest remaining piece. The stunning brass swing arm wall lamps we got from a family friend, adds just the perfect light to show the stunning grain in the wood. We purposely chose white walls and no artwork so that the headboard is always given the respect it deserves. The headboard is the artwork. My mother gave me the bedspread from a trip to India. We love that the combined effect marries the history of all our family roots together.
