- We love how bright the space is. During the day, it is filled with natural sunlight and at night our light fixtures give off a relaxing and romantic glow. The white walls (previously dark grey) are also the perfect background for a refreshing retreat from the outside chaos of NYC life. We can relax with reduced distractions and think openly about new, creative endeavors.

- The original early 20th c. wooden plank flooring made my heart throb when I first saw the apartment, as did the high ceilings and the brick wall. It was love at first sight. This room used to be the living room but I love that it's my bedroom now. Although it's very spacious, I couldn't fit a wardrobe anywhere, so storage for my clothes is definitely a problem. Also, if you are wondering about the door that is blocked by the bed, it doesn't lead anywhere. It was put there to cover a part of the wall that turned out to have a different brickwork.

- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- I love the all the original 1920s features in the room. We just uncovered the tiled hearth a couple of months ago when replacing the carpet, and even though it's not in perfect condition it was way too cool to cover up again. So many houses of this age were destroyed in the Christchurch earthquakes, I feel lucky that we can enjoy and preserve these features for future generations.

- Our bedroom feels calm and serene. Although the tiny windows make it a bit difficult to decorate, I like the uniqueness that they add to the room. The thing I love most about our bedroom is our bed! I love the cozy blankets and the sweater pillows I made for wintertime. It's a comforting place to be at the end of a long day.

- This is the one room in the house for which I've had a clear vision that I've been able to see through to the end (so far, at least). The idea was to fulfill my lifelong fantasy of sleeping in the clouds. You could say that this room is a gift to my younger self.

- What I love most about my bedroom are the moldings, and the color of the walls. The color is called Natures Retreat and it has a hypnotizing effect on you as you enter, calmness falls on you. This room was our kids room and we realized that they needed more space to play so we switched and gave them our big room and then painted and moved into their small room. This is the result.

- I love the plywood panels behind our bed. It's a little bit rustic and a little bit modern. It was a $50 DIY that adds the warmth and architectural character that our builder-grade home lacks.
