- I love that our bedroom is a calm retreat in a sea of constant excitement. With three young children, jobs, and lots on the go, my husband Graham and I wanted to create a sanctuary. For us, that meant a soft palette of whites and greys, a comfortable splurge bed thatâs big enough for the whole family to snuggle in, a statement piece of art, over-scaled lighting, and fabulous storage.

- I love that it's colorful and eclectic - but still relaxing - and that so many pieces with family history have a home there.

- We love the original pre-war details of the room, the moldings, the parquet floors. It's huge for New York, which is great. We both always dreamed of having a full wall of bookshelves and we finally do! We're also pretty proud of our growing art display above the bed.

- The ceilings and the windows are really tall allowing a lot of light during the day. It's also tucked in the back of the unit so it is very quiet at night. The apartment itself used to be a store front and when the businesses closed the owners turned them in to living units so it has a very quirky and unique layout.

- We replaced the old window with a French door so that the room would feel more open and allow more light to come in. What a difference! Now the room is much brighter and roomier. I like the wall color too. The color is Benjamin Moore's "Abalone". It is a very relaxing and soothing color. I enjoy repurposing and restoring old things I buy at thrift stores. It is always fun to turn them into something unique and add lots of personal touches to them.

- I love the calm and serene feeling I get when I am in our bedroom. I love the seascape artwork we have collected, and I love the views of the bay from the windows.

- I love how cozy it is. It has a definite rustic masculine vibe ... but at the same time, modern elements. Like sleeping in a modern cabin retreat. Of course there can never be enough layers ... pillows, down comforters, or Navajo prints.
