If you've ever lived in an apartment, this 'before' picture might look a little familiar. In fact, I'm pretty sure my very first rental had the exact same wood-trimmed cabinets and white laminate countertop. But when Brooklyn residents Mark and Erin bought their own place, they decided it was time for an update — one that would make their outdated kitchen more beautiful and more useful.

The lack of summery weather in London over the past few years has put my balcony on the back burner of my upgrade list. This spring, I decided that maybe a balcony refresh would bring a sunnier summer. Here are a few of the simple changes that I made to my teeny tiny outdoor space.

Tonya lives in a "fantastically old" house that's filled to the brim with home improvement projects. The target for one of these projects was a blank corner of her kitchen that needed seating beyond just the high chair that usually lived there. From what I've seen at garage and yard sales, bookshelf speakers are amongst the most common audio gear components readily available for DIY projects on the cheap. And how many of us have old audio speakers gathering dust in a closet or in the garage? Perhaps it's time to give them a dusting off and reconsideration inspired by this simple upgrade project...

Some parents worry that their baby's closet is too small, but what if all you have for a nursery IS a closet? Kari has been inspired by all the small nurseries we've shown in the past and wanted to share her own small space baby project: her closet turned nursery.  

Back in 2008, when Ainsley Ryan and Chris Showalter bought a fixer-upper loft in a former Ex-Lax factory in Brooklyn's Boerum Hill neighborhood, they commissioned an architect to design something a little unusual — an OSB-clad 'pod' containing a master bedroom, a bathroom, and a little nook for their infant daughter. 

When I first looked at this piece I thought, "Oh, just a little polishing and it'll be good as new." To my surprise, that is not what the after was about to reveal at all.
