My favorite children's book and why I love it: The Faraway Tree trilogy by Enid Blyton. Among the many books written by Blyton in her illustrious career as a children's author, the Faraway Tree series (1940s) is among her readers' most beloved. The books - The Enchanted Wood, The Magic Faraway Tree and The Folk Of The Faraway Tree are about the adventures of three children among the fairy folk. More
Books are such an important part of a child's upbringing, and reading to your little one is beneficial on so many levels. But there are a couple of books my daughter has that use a particular word to such excess that it, well, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. More

My favorite children's book and why I love it: In elementary school my best friend and I read every poem in Shel Silverstein's collection over and over to each other. Oftentimes with funny accents for added drama. Even now, when I see those very same copies of Where the Sidewalk Ends or Light in the Attic on my bookcases I can't help but get a little homesick for that time in my life. The poems are fun, simple and silly-exactly the way childhood is meant to be. More

My favorite children's book and why I love it: It's so hard to choose! As a small child I have vivid memories of my mom reading The Adventures of Asterix to me in French. I always loved that chubby little Gaul and his sidekick Oberix. Once I became a reader myself I loved C.S. Lewis' The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe and read it over and over again. But, I can't forget my most favorite literary friend, Nancy Drew, who always had a good mystery for us to solve together. More
Board books are a child's first introduction to books and there are some wonderful classics. But there are also some wonderful, under-the-radar ones to discover. Two years ago I rounded up some off the beaten path board books and I'm back with fifteen more. More

Kids' crafts are so intriguing because they tend to utilize a diverse amount of materials. Put a pile of scrap paper, cardboard tubes, plastic containers, egg cartons and rubber bands in front of ten different kids and you will undoubtedly get ten very different outcomes. They eagerly accept such humble materials as suitable mediums for their craft. The fact that most of these materials can be found in the recycling bin is a bonus, both environmentally and economically. Kate Lilley's book Eco-Friendly Crafting With Kids celebrates this fact to the fullest. More
If it's up to me to select a pile of books to read with my kids, it will certainly include a handful of titles from this list. If I encounter one of these books at a garage sale, I will snap it up, no matter how many multiple copies I own. And above all, these are books my kids love.

My favorite children's book and why I love it: As I pick just one, I remember dozens of others that I could mention in its place. For today I'll say Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. I fell in love with the entire series of books around 4th grade and have enjoyed them nearly as much as an adult. How can you not love a world where any child's behavior can be corrected with a simple plan in just a matter of days?! And how cool is a a woman who lives in an upside down house? Don't tell me you've never wanted to visit one of those. More
