Living in a city where it seems like almost anything can be delivered in short order, it's not surprising that there is a market for this to extend to cleaning. When I initially learned about the idea behind the startup Get Maid, I was skeptical. A professional cleaning service that's on demand and won't cost me a fortune?  

It doesn't take a jug of toxic chemicals to clear most slow or clogged drains. A drain auger can help cut through the hair, grease and food that's clogging a drain without flushing chemicals through to the water system.

Back in my IT days, I used to carry around disinfecting wipes whenever I had to work on another person's keyboard computer. Some of those keyboards and mice didn't look like they had been cleaned in ages. Needless to say, I'm much happier working from home where I can keep hardware clean and pristine. Laundry controls my life.  At least it has the capacity to, if I let it.  We spend a lot of time here at Apartment Therapy gazing at gorgeous laundry rooms or mooning over the cutest bins and safest detergents.  But let's get down to the brass tacks here: how often do you do it, and does it wind up taking over your bedroom like it does mine? 

I used to hate cleaning behind this large potted plant. It is too big to move on a regular basis, and climbing back into the corner behind the pot to dust made me feel like a bull in a china shop. So guess what? That corner was always dusty. Until I had an "aha moment" which has meant that this corner is kept as clean as the rest of the house:

Some of you out there may know the horrible frozen-in-time moment, somewhere between the cozy grip of your hand and the rough gravel of the terrain below, when you realize you're about to damage your expensive and beloved devie. A thousand thoughts can fly by through your head between losing control and the eventual painful landing. Daylight savings time is a good reminder that it's time to spring clean. But what I don't love about the chore is that once the weather gets nice I want to run outside, not be cooped up at home with rubber gloves and a duster. This month, though, is sort of that sweet spot when I can still justify a day indoors before I start to blow off my apartment for greener, sunnier pastures.
