Day 15: Wednesday, August 21 Assignment: Totally up to you!
While what we'll all do with today's assignment time will be wildly varied, I hope the lesson to take away from it is universal. Here goes: all things usually take more time than expected and building in a little breathing room at the beginning will always be appreciated down the road. My husband calls it "being kind to your future self". Today is our pre-scheduled breather for the Cure, along with a few suggestions of how to spend it...
Day 14: Tuesday, August 20 Assignment: Focus on the Flow of Your Room
You've been working quite a bit on the visuals of your room - the colors, textures and patterns. Today is a chance to take a bit of a breather and think about the physical space and your layout. A little work goes a long way here and you may be able to improve the flow of your room with just a few small shifts. Let's dig in on one of Maxwell's lessons...
The kitchen is mostly painted, with the exception of some trim, and I've done some serious paring down of my enormous shopping list (and probably saved my marriage in the process). The keyword in our house these days is BUDGET. I tried to pick items that were both beautiful and useful for the kitchen, like a hand towel, cookbooks, and a cake stand. I also bought some affordable artwork and have been working on finding the perfect placement for it.
I've made tons of progress, and I'm starting to feel like the bulk of the crappy work is now behind me. I can't emphasize enough how much stuff was in that room, and how much time it took to get rid of everything. My car was filled to the ceiling on its trip to Goodwill, and I also gave a bunch away to friends. It felt SO GOOD to let go of it all.
I've finally hit the point in this process where it feels like it's really happening. With a massive sheet of plywood is leaned up against the wall in my tiny bedroom it's pretty unavoidable, like it or not I'm all in.
Guess what? I bought my curtain fabric on Friday! I am so obsessed with it. I've been staring at it longingly all weekend. But since I can't bear the thought of messing it up, today is all about getting acquainted with my sewing machine, and practicing long, straight lines on sample fabric.
Day 13: Monday, August 19 Assignment: Make some progress on your projects
After what I hope was a successful shopping weekend, you should be raring to go on your projects. With supplies and info in hand, today is the time to really dig in and start making some progress toward your goals. While spending a longer stretch of time is always preferable, even if you can only spare 30 minutes today, do it. Getting started is half the battle!
While of course I'll be shopping for paint, hardware, etc. for my kitchen facelift, I figured I'd just include the pretty items here. While I'd love to purchase everything on my list, as usual it's not all in the budget, so I'll have to whittle it down to a reasonable amount. What would you choose?
