Artists Thyra Hilden and Pio Diaz created this sculpture of an elaborate tree root system around a light fixture. When lit, it projects a forest that changes as the light is dimmed or brightened. It's moody, perhaps even a bit spooky, like a Grimm's fairy tale come to life.

Last week I was at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami giving a presentation and signing my new book David Stark: The Art of the Party. It was a fabulous day not only because the crowd was amazing, but the museum has a lot of meaning to me — it is the site of one of my favorite projects in the book:   the recent 15^th Anniversary Gala we created for MOCA.

The key to making a table lamp is finding the correct socket set-up and mount. Some readymade kits already exist but, otherwise, you have to figure out what works best for your chosen vessel-turned-lamp base. I myself had a random wooden vase/candleholder that perfectly accommodated a basic globe shade from the hardware store. It was screaming to become a lamp, and I was more than happy to oblige.
