As the January Cure progresses and organization and decluttering have taken center stage, I've begun dreaming of teeny, tiny homes! I'd love the challenge of doing an extreme edit of my belongings — but with a husband and three (soon to be four) boys, I won't be living in less than 200 square feet anytime soon. Still, I love small homes and their high level of efficiency — here are some of my favorites! More
Europe's largest design exhibition, Maison & Objet, is underway in Paris, revealing the direction interior design will take this year and beyond into 2014. British design journalist Ellie Tennant has braved the snow and pounded the aisles for Apartment Therapy. Here, she reports on three of the key trends to emerge… More
Elliot's Fantastic Mr. Fox party inspired me to think about foxes as a party theme. Just thinking about this imaginary party makes me all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. It combines a favorite childhood animal with modern pastels and a hint of faux bois. The options are limitless, but here are a few things to make a birthday party magical.

Last year, I had the huge honor of being a member of an Advisory Board to the Mayor for Bloomberg's adAPT micro unit project. Back in November, I met with my fellow board members and reviewed the finalists in the competition to help determine the design the city would move forward with. (Talk about a day to remember - it was all a bit of a dream come true for this design-obsessed editor.) Today, the Mayor announced the winning submission and the choice is a very interesting one. The translucent Meme Meadows House in Japan is a lovely example of minimalist architecture. More importantly, though, it's an experimental house, built by design firm Kengo Kuma and Associates to test heating methods in extreme climates — with plenty of inspiration from the traditional building methods of the Ainu people. Kristin and Adam, an actress and a filmmaker, share this wonderful cozy apartment with their son Sammy, in Mount Pleasant, Vancouver. Together they have a warm and inviting home to return to after long days on film sets where they can enjoy family time and share a tasty meal. Most of their home is curated and collected pieces of artwork and souvenirs from traveling. But what I most enjoy is the truly sincere nature of their home.

It's week two of the cure and while I've lost a bit of my initial enthusiasm it's been replaced by something a bit stronger... disgust. I finally did get around to dragging out the behemoth of a vacuum that lives in the back closet and I cleaned every last corner of my kitchen this weekend. Where does all that dirt come from??

Trompe l'oeil has come a long way since the Baroque period. Think you are looking at rustic tin? Not so much. Crumpled paper? Gotcha again. Digitally produced materials, like the wallpaper from Bodie & Fou above, mimic other surfaces and play with our sense of perception. More
