This past Friday we closed down our fourth annual Design Showcase. For a full month we took your submissions and chose the top thirty independent designers, makers and creatives from around the world and gave them their own virtual booths to show off their stuff. 100,000 pageviews later everyone showed great stuff, got a ton of exposure and a small handful received prizes from our judges. I want to personally thank you all for contributing to another great year and invite you to check out this year's top exhibitors. More

Design: 25S32E collection
Materials: Recycled wood and local wood (Umbila)

Pitch: "25S32E is a handcrafted scrap-wood furniture collection, designed by Lisbon based studio KUVA (Aldo Tornaghi) and Maputo based ABdesign (Ab Oosterwaal), members of the design collective Piratas do Pau. Inspired by Maputo, the place where it is created and entirely produced, the collection uses the city's architectural details to define its own design language and to generate, through a simple shift of scale, the five different patterns that are a visual direct reference to the local urban environment."

Design: Morkt Samfunn Console
Materials: Walnut and tube electronics

Pitch: A year in design and development, and we present our very first foray into audiophile electronics. Blending the worlds of modern furniture design and custom electronics, our MORKT SAMFUNN Console is a throwback to the entertainment consoles of the 1940s and 50s, outfitted with the best in high efficiency, vacuum tube amplification and speaker design.

Design: SK8Swing
Materials: Skateboard deck and steel cable

Pitch: The SK8Swing is a simple and clean project that encourages people to start crafting their own furniture or design piece. It's also a project for people who love the sport, but can't ride a skateboard. Having one around make me feel good and wild enough. A plain wood board, their original holes and two pieces of steel cable; combined materials that don't interfere with the skateboard deck's original design.

Design: Upcycled table/desk
Materials: Pine table, silk, cloth, glue, varnish, cork plug

Pitch: This old pine table stood in somebody's kitchen for ages. When we "met" by the skip it didn't want to die nor serve in a kitchen any more. It wanted a new life. Now it has turned into a desk dressed in silk ties and cloth.

Design: Raven
Materials: Wood, paint, horse hair, cotton, wool, goose down feathers, fabric

Pitch: The "Raven" chair combines my interest in fashion with my love of textiles and antique furniture. "Dressing" my chairs is a new concept I'm exploring this year and Raven is the first in the series. I look to Alexander McQueen, Schiaparelli, Prada and Project Runway for inspiration when translating fashion into furniture.
