Q: I found a chair that is really comfortable and good looking and would like to know what it is... would love help.
Q: I live in a basement apartment in DC with brick floors- it seems like at one point they were sealed, but there is definite wear and the bricks are largely exposed these days. I'm not sure how to go about keeping the floors clean- do I have to live with perpetually dusty feet?
Q: Hi there. A few years back I got lots of feedback from Apartment Therapy readers in doing a quick and dirty facelift on my kitchen: It's been 2.5 years and while the facelift has held up pretty well, I'm itching to make some more low-cost changes. After painting, I never loved the green (Sherwin Williams Willow Tree) or the upper cabinet color (SW Westhighland White) that I chose, and I think part of the problem is the lighting (or lack thereof) in my kitchen:
Q: We are about to move to a new apartment that contains a long living space that is intended to be divided up into a living room and bedroom. In the pictures I've attached (from Craigslist) the living room will be the area next to the kitchen, and the bedroom will be at the other end of the space.
Q: I just bought a beautiful Plycraft Eames-style lounge chair that is in really good condition. The only problem is that it is missing four buttons (two on the chair seat and two on the ottoman). I'd like to replace the tufted buttons without removing the cushions from the plywood shell. Is there a way to thread them through the cushion? Or is there a special "self-tufting" button that I could pop in there?
Q: So, form and function are butting heads in our boy + girl apartment living room. The room looks squished, with lots of seating, and enough storage for all our collective "stuff". But out of necessity, the room is rearranged regularly to accommodate my boy's gaming needs. I feel bad for "putting the furniture back" when clearly the problem is with the function of the arrangement...
Q: We have bought a Preston Sofa from Made.com in the praline brown color. The walls and carpet are neutral. The living room door is a certain shade of wood and so we are worried a different color wood won't look right. What do you think?
Q: We recently got some new neighbors — a couple with five kids. They sure love their family time in their backyard. That's fine with us except that when they are outside, they can see right into our house. Unfortunately, the city has restrictions on fence height — no higher than 6 feet.
Q: My husband and I just purchased our first home. We're very excited, but we have never decorated a house, either together or separately! All of our furniture is handed down and not particularly lovable, and we are ready to have our own (much larger) space with our own stuff.
Q: Hello, Apartment Therapy! I bought a house almost two years ago, and since then, I've made many "edits" to modernize it and match it with my style. The one project I've been putting off is my fireplace. The previous owner painted 95% of the fireplace dark brown — to me, about the least appealing paint color you could ever choose for a fireplace. Or anything, really. The ceiling fan is also kind of tragic, but one thing at a time:
