Q: Hello there, I'm a huge fan of the site and I'm eager to finally reach out with what may (or may not) be an unusual dilemma. Most people have questions or issues about decorating for small spaces. I have always lived in very small rooms or studios and have made do. Recently, I was finally able to move into a larger space with a comfortably-sized bedroom... and I'm stumped. Overwhelmed. I feel like I'm at the edge of the Grand Canyon. I have NO idea what to do with this (rental) space or the blah beige and white everything. Please help me! I even have pictures!
Q: I have a little covered patio that you have to walk through to get into my apartment that I'm trying to make more usable. I live on a lake in Florida, so my friends really like to sit outside and chill, but four chairs aren't enough. I'd like more seating, but i'd like the seating to stay relaxed and comfortable. The photos here are a floor plan, and an actual picture of the colors, etc. I'm usually a really creative person and I do a lot of decorating for friends and family, but I think I might have a block with this porch. Please help me!
Q: We have a lovely antique oak pedestal table in our tiny dining room. We also have very sturdy oak Windsor chairs. I think all the oak looks a little old fashioned. Ever since I read the Apartment Therapy article on painting Windsor chairs, I've been flirting with the idea of painting the chairs.
Q: Hello! I am considering buying an IKEA Nyvoll bed to use with slats and my current pillow top mattress. I am concerned that the 15 inch thickness of my mattress will not be compatible with the bed, however. I am aware that it has adjustable bed rails, but the website doesn't indicate how low it can go, and I don't want my mattress to swallow the headboard!
Q: I am in the midst of renovating my apartment and I was lucky to get a great price on some oak flooring. I really wanted a darker board, but the oak was all I could afford, so I decided to also buy a dark stain. When we tested the stain on a few boards the color varied dramatically. Some boards look quite red, some burnt ash brown and some very flat dark brown.
Q: I live in a large, gorgeous community house with three other adults and a dog. We are fortunate to have a large room in the center of the house in addition to our living room, but we have NO idea what to do with it. It has five walls, four of which have doors, and a giant (non-working) fireplace on the fifth wall. The light is good in the morning, but the room gets pretty dark in the afternoon. The cathedral ceilings feel a bit overwhelming as well:
Q: Hi! I inherited a beautiful rosewood eames chair and ottoman from my dad a few years back. Problem is, it's in desperate need of re-upholstery! I've tried contacting Herman Miller, but no luck there. I live in LA and the chair is currently in Toronto with my mom. I would be eternally grateful if you could point me in the direction of a qualified/reputable upholsterer of Eames chairs in either LA or Toronto. Thank you!
Q: In a email I received from All Modern, the attached image was used. Of course I scoured their site for hours looking for the antler towel holder, but couldn't find it. I then emailed them, but they didn't have a clue either. Any ideas?
Q: I recently came into possession of 3 compendiums of the UK magazine 'The Story of Pop' from the early 70s. They are full of hundreds of amazing photos and articles about some of the greatest musicians of the last 70 years, and I want to put them to good use in the home. However, I need inspiration. Do any of you Apartment Therapy folks have any ideas?
Q: I'm redoing my living room and found a cheap rug in a bold palette. I love the main colors (teal, yellow, red) but I'm not sure if they are working together (the background color is more green and muted in real life). Is the rug TOO bold (ugly)? I'll be replacing most of the furniture and changing the furniture layout.
