Each winter, my mom spends a serious amount of time and energy draping garland on first her own Victorian staircase, and then the enormous stairway in my grandparents' farmhouse. It always looks fabulous, like a wintry dream, but it's so much work for a month or so of decoration. Lola Madrid, a Spanish creative agency, is working on a project that turns old cars into new bicycles. Each bike is hand built by bicycle shop owners using materials that are sourced from junkyards: car metals are recycled to build the frame, transmission belts become bicycle chains, turn signals are used as reflective lights, and the bike seat and handlebars are covered with car upholstery.

Sod Room is a brand new play place in Chicago's South Loop neighborhood. It's an easy solution to that light fixture you hate: an easy-to-create basket light. You can buy a pretty basket and make one in an afternoon, or take a more ambitious route and weave your own pretty sisal version. More
I've always said that if I won the lottery I'd still want to live in a small space. Sure, I'd upgrade from my 500-square-foot apartment to a craftsman-style house with a porch and an eat-in kitchen (I mean, I'm not crazy), but the last thing I'd want is a Real Housewives-size mansion, or worse, a Downton Abbey.
