Six years ago, Gavin Froome set out with friend Mike Bernard to explore the Pacific Northwest coastline — and its legacy of modernist architecture. The result is “Coast Modern,” an independent documentary that’s been featured in festivals across the globe and is about to show again on June 4 at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. Between touring for the film and his work as a freelance art director and music producer, he showed us around his bright, clean-lined Vancouver studio.

Of all the rooms in my house the "second bedroom" has been the hardest to resolve. Yes, I'm grateful for the extra space, but rather than be efficient with it, the room has mostly become an oversized storage closet — all the miscellaneous stuff gets thrown in there, including a desk, old couch, drying rack, books, etc. I'd really love for it to be a true combination home office and guest bedroom. This is my home office – it's where I talk with clients, edit photos, design websites, sketch out logos and write articles for my blog, Family Sponge. It’s also located in my bedroom, just to the right of our bed. So I guess it’s actually a “bedside office”. Ryan refinished this desk bought from the Salvation Army, and we found this funky chair at a thrift store as well. The seat cushion of the chair lifts up and my kids like to hide treasures in here for me to find. So sweet!
