Two weeks ago I attended the inaugural Saturday InDesign 2011 event in Singapore. This furniture and home furnishings show, also held annually in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, is organized by InDesign, an Australian-based organization that hosts a number of design shows as well publishes various design publications like Design Quarterly and Habitus. Though natural materials and sleek, futuristic furnishings were big trends at this year’s ICFF, there was certainly no shortage of color, especially when it came to wall and floor coverings. Check out these ten head turning collections from international designers, both big and small. More
It may be named for its focus on contemporary furniture design, but ICFF always offers up a few accents and accessories that offer inspiration for the home-office-product-loving heart. Take a gander at a six smart items that caught our eye at the 2011 show in NYC over the weekend. More
Attending ICFF has become an annual event for me and just like any other anticipated "holiday", it is with a mixture of excitement, anticipation and just a tinge of concern (will it be as good as last year?) that I arrive at the Javits. The other constant is that I'm part of a crew — a big team of us hit the show and we generally have a post-game wrapup of our favorites; the things we'd take home if we could. This year, I'm sharing our wishlist with everyone... More
We've already proclaimed our love for the Tools at Schools desk as our fav overall pick from this year's ICFF show. But there were plenty other desks that offered a bevy of storage solutions for small spaces inside compact form factors, with new designs and some revived from the past… More
Attending ICFF has become an annual event for the Apartment Therapy team, and just like any other anticipated "holiday", it is with a mixture of excitement, anticipation and just a tinge of concern (will it be as good as last year?). The other constant is that we're part of a crew — a big team of us hit the show and we generally have a post-game wrapup of our favorites; the things we'd take home if we could. Here's a roundup of our favourites from the whole team that attended the 2011 show...
Of all the cool stuff at ICFF this week, these new lights by Peter Stathis stood out by a mile. Gregory has the full report from two meetings with Peter:
"We got a special early preview of some new high efficiency, high design offerings from JOBY this morning. Primarily known for their GorillaPod tripods and lights, we admit we were surprised with the whole new design direction of this duo of new lighting options, the Trapeze and Obus." >> Go To Full Post
The Gypsy Wheel, an audio system designed by Wang Jinsheng (he stopped us in our tracks last year with his water fountain turntables), was pieced together using salvaged automotive parts, coupled with audio speakers and drum kit hardware. Certainly one of the more unusual designs from this year's ICFF show...
ICFF provides the opportunity to meet young designers who are at the very beginning of their careers, when anything is possible. Twenty-four-year-old John Green flew over from the UK to show his furniture, and although his tiny booth was tucked away in a remote corner of the hall, he already had a well developed collection in production, he'd begun talking to US distributors, and he was ridiculously cute and optimistic about his future.
