Among all the fixtures, faucets, plumbing and potties at KBIS — the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show — there are some noticeable trends. As I filtered through all the kitchen and bathroom commotion in Las Vegas this week, here are the three trends that stood out:

We love the look of white counters, like the ones show above in this UK kitchen. We are considering having them installed in our apartment that we are currently readying to put on the market. The look is clean, spare and modern and works well with both the ubiquitous stainless steel or white appliances. But, finding true, bright white in a durable material was proving to be somewhat of a challenge. More
Half the fun of the KBIS tradeshow is seeing the sample kitchens set up by the big appliance companies to show off their stoves, fridges and dishwashers. Some are very traditional - just what you would expect to find on the pages of a kitchen renovation magazine - and some are pretty over the top in an attempt to stand out from the crowd...and those are the ones we love to see! At KBIS we noticed a real trend toward more classical shapes and motifs and less hard edged pieces for the bath. Toto was showing a really interesting bath collection, Aimes, which combined very traditional design elements with a modern simplicity of form, illustrated here by the console from the collection. It's essentially a slim-lined, almost flattened version of a bombe chest - a very post modern look for the bathroom! More
Looking for a beautiful bathroom collection? Well, here you go. We really liked the look (and quality) of the Counterpoint Collection (large photos below) designed by Barbara Barry that was shown at the Kallista booth during KBIS. Elegant and simple but with a distinctly "glammed up" feel, this is a just the tiniest bit of a retro take on a bath that seems fit for the en suite of some imaginary Hollywood silver screen royalty. Who knew that we'd ever be saying that a light up ANYTHING (other than a lamp that is) was actually nice looking?
Call us surprised, but have to say that the new clear resin shallow, circular sink (larger photos below) from Toto that we saw at KBIS this past weekend was really pretty amazing looking — in both it's illuminated and regular states. More
Unexpected, beautiful, unusual and exotic - we really loved the new Indah collection of wooden tiles introduced at KBIS this week. Indah means "beautiful" in Indonesian, and we think the name is absolutely fitting - the three variations of wooden tiles shown at KBIS in the Ann Sacks booth were show stoppers. Made from teak, they are available in different finishes. More
