We're fans of a good before-and-after, but sometimes it's nice to see a new-build with all the charms and comforts of an older home. This new kitchen, with the skillful addition of vintage and reclaimed elements, precisely fits that bill. More

Our style is clean, simple, and authentic. And quirky. And has to be livable and unpretentious. I love white, utilitarian kitchen spaces with simple, unfussy materials. Generally classic materials, but I think that's bias because my house was built in 1918. I think there's always a best-case scenario for any circumstance and budget, and that every space in a home should inform the others. More

My style is classic with eclectic touches. My boyfriend Dean is more of a modernist, but we try to meet in the middle. On this project, the historic Victorian architecture of the building will play a leading role in terms of style. That said, we are incorporating modernist, Scandinavian country, and industrial elements. The goal is to create a timeless, sophisticated kitchen that looks like it has a been there forever, but will also look current in 2020. We cannot renovate the kitchen again when it's time to sell the apartment in a 5 – 10 years, so it needs to stylistically stand the test of time. More

However, we do favor a more modern space with clean lines, and have been inspired by the homes we've seen over the past several years on the Dwell on Design L.A. Home Tour as well as minimalist Scandinavian homes in the books and magazines we've collected. We're excited by the possibilities that this new Mid-Century home of ours offers because we'll be able to create a more streamlined, modern space.

Claire and Jeffrey's kitchen, as you can see, has beautiful natural light, but more than a few issues. The cabinets are old and mismatched, there's not nearly enough storage space, and the walls are covered with layer upon layer of crumbling contact paper. Over the years, multiple owners have covered the original hardwood floor with plywood and vinyl tile. With a little budget and a lot of elbow grease, Claire and Jeffrey are aiming to help this small kitchen live up to its potential. More

Through our Renovation Diary program, Apartment Therapy is partnering with some lucky readers to help make their remodeling dreams come true, and to share the process with you, week by week. Meet Andi, who's doing a gut renovation of the very outdated kitchen in the condo she shares with her boyfriend. Their building dates to the 1890's, and the kitchen, which has received some halfhearted updates over the years, leaves a little something to be desired. More
There's so much to love in this picture... the herbs drying on the rack, the vintage metal baskets, the copper pots and pans. It's everything a cozy rustic kitchen should be! More
