This past fall I visited the Ralph Lauren showroom down in High Point, NC for the first time and was totally surprised and blown away by what I saw there. While most furniture companies and designers follow trends and break out only a little bit, the Ralph Lauren folks live in their own world and march to their own drummer. A beautiful 1929 Swedish villa with all the remarkable interior architectural details of the age intact make for an interesting juxtaposition with the assortment of ultramodern decorative (check out the Tom Dixon Mirror Ball!), furnishing, and home entertainment objects strewn across the home's herringbone floor. The makeover of this Brooklyn living room wasn't just for aesthetic reasons; the homeowners needed more organized, out-of-sight storage, and a space that was kid and cat friendly. They also wanted to incorporate a small piano, and be able to watch TV without the television being the focal point of the room. To do this, they turned to New York design firm Mercer Interior.
